South Park Creators Making Live-Action Comedy With A-List Rapper

Paramount Picture president Brian Robbins revealed during CinemaCon 2024 that the untitled comedy movie from South Park creators and Kendrick Lamar will be released in theaters on July 4, 2025, so get ready for some Fourth of July laughs.

Kendrick Lamar Heads To The Big Screen

CinemaCon 2024, the world’s largest and most important gathering of movie theater owners, is also a place where stars and studio executives can showcase their latest productions. As expected, the event also featured plenty of unseen footage from upcoming releases, such as Deadpool & Wolverine, Moana 2, and Gladiator II. Among the announcements, however, was also the upcoming movie from Matt Stone and Trey Parker in collaboration with the A-list rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Kendrick’s Role Is Unknown

According to Brain Robbins, the film’s script is one of the funniest and most original scripts that has ever passed through his hands, and it’s certain to create some fireworks upon its release in 2025. The project was previously announced in 2022, with pgLang’s Dave Free as a producer and Vernon Chatman as the writer. Apart from the synopsis and the release date, no other details are available at this particular moment, and Kendrick Lamar’s role in the project still remains unknown.

The South Park Movie

As per the original announcement, the narrative of the movie revolves around the past and the present colliding (figuratively) when a young Black man working as a slave reenactor at a living history museum discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his. This upcoming comedy will be Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s first feature film following the release of 1999’s South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut and 2004’s Team America: World Police. This is also the first feature of pgLang, which Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free founded.

South Park Is Old Enough To Rent A Car

Stone and Parker need no introduction; they’re known for creating the Comedy Central animated series South Park, which aired its 26th season last year. For those who aren’t familiar with the series, it became infamous for its profanity and dark and surreal humor that satirizes a large range of subject matter. The series debuted to great success and remains one of the highest-rated shows on any basic cable program and one of Comedy Central’s longest-running shows. It’s also known for its celebrity collaborations, and Kendrick Lamar now joins that list.

Kendrick Lamar Is One Of The Greatest Musicians In History

Kendrick Lamar also needs no introduction. The American rapper and singer-songwriter is often regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time; he’s the only musician outside of classical and jazz genres to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Not only that, but he’s one of the most talented and awarded rappers in history, and Time listed him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2016.

To round this discussion up, given the film’s premise and Kendrick Lamar’s infusion of political criticism and social commentary into his work—which has influenced the rise of social consciousness within this generation—we have very little doubt that the upcoming movie will be nothing short of a cinematic masterpiece.
