He was an art thief in Netflix’s Red Notice, but for his next Netflix heist he’ll be working with one of the most acclaimed living directors. Our trusted and proven source tell us Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) will be starring in the Netflix comedy feature Caper Conundrum. Sitting in the director’s chair will be Edgar Wright, best known for the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost led Cornetto Trilogy (e.g. Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) as well as more recent efforts like 2017’s Baby Driver and 2021’s Last Night in Soho.

Ryan Reynolds will star in the Netflix original comedy feature Caper Conundrum directed by acclaimed English filmmaker Edgar Wright.

We don’t know yet who else will star in Caper Conundrum — or if anyone else has been cast yet — but judging both by what we know about the plot and Edgar Wright’s penchant for recruiting impressive ensemble casts, Ryan Reynolds will likely not be the film’s only A-lister.

The logline says Caper Conundrum follows a group of eccentric thieves led by ringleader Max Turner (Ryan Reynolds). Turner devises an elaborate plan to steal an elusive artifact from a heavily guarded museum, encountering hilarious obstacles along the way.

Between 2019’s 6 Underground, 2021’s Red Notice, last year’s The Adam Project, the upcoming Red Notice 2 and now Caper Conundrum, you could practically host a Ryan Reynolds film festival just with his Netflix offerings.

From the sound of it Caper Conundrum is potentially the perfect feature to give fans the first screen collaboration between Ryan Reynolds and Edgar Wright. Reynolds’ comedy chops are without question, with even his most violent films — such as the Deadpool series — proving to be some of his funniest. In the meantime comedy is almost always a huge element in Wright’s films, whether the stories deal with zombies, alien invasions, or a slacker tween fighting all of his girlfriends’ exes.

The comedy promises to strengthen the ties Ryan Reynolds has already made with Netflix. A growing number of the Wrexham co-owner’s films are being made as Netflix originals. When Can We See Caper Conundrum?

We don’t have word yet on when we can expect to see Caper Conundrum on Netflix, but as it is with just about every upcoming screen project, a lot depends on the resolution of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike. Ryan Reynolds has a long list of projects already on his waiting list when the strike ends, including finishing Deadpool 3.

Edgar Wright likewise has his own work to do before directing Ryan Reynolds in Caper Conundrum. The World of Reel reported in March he would start filming The Chain in September, though that has no doubt been put on hold because of the strike. He’s also committed to directing a remake of The Running Man for Paramount Pictures, which will reportedly be more faithful to Stephen King’s 1982 novel than the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
