Edgar Wright Wrote A Steampunk Sequel To Oliver Twist, Details Here

Oliver TwistIf you can shoehorn zombies into Jane Austen and make the 16th President of the United States a vampire hunter, why can’t you craft a steampunk sequel to Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist? The idea of Dodge and Twist has been bouncing around for the last few years, but now it is receiving a major upgrade in the form of a script by none other than Edgar Wright.

According to Film Divider, the filmmaker behind the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy—Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End—is taking a whack at the title. The story is originally the brainchild of Ahmet Zappa, and Wright picks up where screenwriter Cole Hammond (NBC’s Dracula), who had the first crack at the material, and Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), who turned in another draft, left off.

Christopher Nolan Isn’t The Only One With A Chance To Direct Ready Player One

ready player oneThere’s been a lot of talk lately about the adaptation of Ernest Cline’s novel Ready Player One, and it’s both an exciting and unnerving prospect. The book is so damn good that we’d love to see a big screen version done right, but it’s so damn complicated and problematic that is also seems almost unfilmable. Earlier we heard that an unexpected name, Christopher Nolan, had been offered the chance to direct the film, but now there are reports that four other names are being considered, or are at least on the studio’s dream wish list.

According to Ain’t It Cool, the four new names are Edgar Wright, Peter Jackson, Matthew Vaughn, and Robert Zemeckis. Remember what I said about it being dream list, as they are definitely shooting for the stars here. Any one of these, Nolan included, could be an awesome fit and bring their own unique set of virtues to Ready Player One.

Roberto Orci Is Off Star Trek 3, Find Out Who Is In Line To Replace Him

Star TrekThis is news that I suspect is going to make a lot of Star Trek fans out there very, very happy. The much-maligned Roberto Orci has vacated the director’s chair of the upcoming Star Trek 3. That alone is newsworthy, but the first name to be mentioned in regards to filling that slot up again is an exciting one: Edgar Wright.

A writer and producer on the first two films, Orci was tapped to take the directing job on Star Trek 3, which would have been his first job helming anything, let alone a blockbuster feature, after J.J. Abrams left the rebooted franchise for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Deadline reports, however, that this is no longer the case. It’s unclear if the decision was Orci’s, or if the Paramount brass had anything to do with pulling the plug. He’s still going to stay on as a producer and writer, which seems unlikely if he was fired, but who the hell knows, maybe they gently suggested he step down.

James Gunn, William Shatner, And More React To The Force Awakens Trailer

SaberScrew Black Friday — pretty much all anyone’s talking about right now is that Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer. Love it, hate it, or fall somewhere in between, I haven’t met anybody yet who didn’t have a strong reaction to it one way or another, and celebrities are no exception. So naturally many folks have taken to the social mediasphere to share their thoughts on the Falcon, that lightsaber, and that ball-droid we all want for Christmas.

This past summer James Gunn gave us one of the best Star Wars movies that isn’t actually a Star Wars movie in the form of Guardians of the Galaxy. He posted his thoughts on Facebook:

Edgar Wright’s Music Video For Daft Punk And Pharrell Has Flying Stone Heads

A number of notable movie directors have either gotten their start directing music videos or gone on to helm them for friends or big acts. The list includes the likes of Spike Jonze, David Fincher, and Paul Thomas Anderson. Hell, Martin Scorsese even directed Michael Jackson’s “Bad” video in 1986 (remember when Jacko dance fights with Wesley Snipes?). Now we can add one more name to this list, as Edgar Wright has directed this new video for “Gust of Wind” by Pharrell Williams and Daft Punk.

Wright, as many of you probably know, is most known for directing movies, especially the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy that includes fan favorites Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and the most recent installment, The World’s End. He also has an extensive background in episodic television, which is where he first worked with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and tag team of terror that would help to, in large part, define his career up to this point.

Shaun Of The Dead And The World’s End Figures Your Latest Must Have Toys

Shaun of the DeadJust because Edgar Wright’s so-called Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy is over doesn’t mean we’re magically going to stop loving them. They’re too good for that. Those three loosely related siblings—thematically connected rather than plot or story wise—may be done, but we can still celebrate the awesomeness that Wright and co-conspirators Simon Pegg and Nick Frost brought into the world. And one way to do it is with action figures.

Of the three films—Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End—only the first and the last really fall into the sci-fi category, but that’s okay, we still love you Hot Fuzz. And we’re far from the only fans wandering around out here. Evil Corp has now created these three sets of figurines to commemorate the films, and they are pretty damn fantastic. Each set pairs Pegg and Frost’s respective characters, bringing them together again, and for you to control this time.
