Noomi Rapace Headlines New Sci-Fi Thriller Series Constellation

It’s a good time to be a sci-fi fan. As legacy franchises like Star Wars have stalled out and genre titans like the MCU have floundered, shows like Silo and For All Mankind have proven there are amazing sci-fi stories left to tell. Now, a veteran of an amazing sci-fi franchise is going to headline the next buzzworthy series to geek out about with your coworkers around the water cooler.

Noomi Rapace (star of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant) will star in Constellation, a show about an astronaut who experiences tragedy in space that continues to haunt her back on Earth, on Apple TV+

The official premise of Constellation describes Rapace’s astronaut who discovers that “key pieces of her life seem to be missing” after she lives through an unspecified “disaster in space.” It sounds like the show will be more mature fare than sci-fi staples such as Star Trek because the premise of this show claims it will explore “the dark edges of human psychology.”

Noomi Rapace was the best part of both Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, and she is joined by more awesome actors from some of our favorite television series.

The exact details of the plot are being kept deliberately vague right now, but the premise ends by describing how Rapace’s character is on a “desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel and recover all that she has lost.”

While we don’t yet know that much about the exact plot of Constellation, we know that it is being created by some of the biggest heavyweights in sci-fi programming. The show’s creator is Peter Harness. He is best known for writing several episodes of Doctor Who (including meaty episodes like “The Zygon Invasion” and “The Zygon Inversion”).

The show will be directed by Michelle MacLaren, who has helmed episodes of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and Westworld, so she’s no stranger to helping the biggest shows bring their big ideas to life.

Noomi Rapace in Prometheus

Another reason to be hyped about Constellation is its cast. Noomi Rapace was the best part of both Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, and she is joined by more awesome actors from some of our favorite television series. For example, the show stars Jonathan Banks, best known for portraying the grumpy ex-cop turned expert con Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad and its spinoff Better Call Saul. The show also stars D’Arcy Carden, who frequently stole the show as the informational assistant (“not a girl,” as she frequently clarifies) on The Good Place.

We have a lot of confidence about Constellation because it has successful genre veterans behind the camera and in front of the camera, all hosted by the only streaming platform to consistently take big swings with science fiction.

Constellation is already picking up strong buzz, and this highlights something that may come as a shock to sci-fi fans. Apple TV+ has quietly become the streaming service delivering the best science fiction on television. This platform hosts the aforementioned shows Silo and For All Mankind, and it is also home to killer shows like Monarch and Invasion.

Apple also gave the green light to a third season of Foundation, and for old-school nerds, it’s unexpectedly awesome to see a major streaming network work so hard to give science fiction legend Isaac Asimov’s series the love that it deserves.

In other words, we have a lot of confidence about Constellation because it has successful genre veterans behind the camera and in front of the camera, all hosted by the only streaming platform to consistently take big swings with science fiction. Even better, those big swings keep knocking these shows out of the park (honestly, For All Mankind alone will change your idea of what sci-fi television can and should be like). It sounds like Constellation’s success is (ahem) written in the stars, and you don’t need this week’s horoscope to see that this show is going to be another banger from Apple TV+.
