The live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is scheduled for a 2024 premiere on Netflix, and the streaming giant just released new character photos for the upcoming series via TUDUM. The characters that were presented include Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as General Iroh, Ken Leung as Commander Zhao, Elizabeth Yu as Princess Azula, and an updated image of Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko.

Though most critics of live-action adaptations are quick to nitpick the costume designs of their favorite characters, the reception up to this point has been overwhelmingly positive.

X user @annoyed_sister expresses how great the costumes look, and says how they look like they were directly inspired by the iconic animated series that ran from 2005 to 2008. But user @NWNM7 was quick to reply with images from the original series, saying that The Last Airbender didn’t make the right casting call for the upcoming Netflix series. But despite some negative feedback, fans can hardly contain their excitement over The Last Airbender, and the creative direction that Netflix has taken.

The upcoming The Last Airbender Netflix series will hopefully remain faithful to the source material, and if fan reactions are any indication, we’re off to a great start.

The Last Airbender will adapt the original series, and during this phase of development, it seems like the Netflix series will meet the expectations of fans who were disappointed with the 2010 M. Night Shyamalan-directed movie. For those of you who don’t remember this ill-fated attempt at a live-action feature film adaptation, it’s probably for the better because critics and fans alike were heavy-handed with their criticism of the film.

The Last Airbender won’t appear on Netflix until 2024, but the hype surrounding the series tells us that we may have another live-action hit on our hands.

As ambitious of a project as it was, The Last Airbender received a 5 percent critical score on Rotten Tomatoes for its overuse of exposition, lackluster 3D visuals, and deviating from the source material in a way that alienated its target audience.

The upcoming The Last Airbender Netflix series will hopefully remain faithful to the source material, and if fan reactions are any indication, we’re off to a great start. It has been reported that each of the upcoming eight episodes have a production budget of $15 million.

The original The Last Airbender animated Nickelodeon series boasts a 100 percent critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning that Netflix has their work cut out for them.

If the money is well spent, then we can expect superior special effects, more engaging storytelling, and a live-action series that will win over not only loyal fans of the original animated property, but also new fans who are just getting into the franchise.

The Last Airbender won’t appear on Netflix until 2024, but the hype surrounding the series tells us that we may have another live-action hit on our hands. We all know by now that Netflix’s One Piece has been quite successful with its live-action adaptation, and if Netflix truly listens to its audience and seriously considers its viewership data, then it’s safe to assume that they’ll use every resource possible to make sure that The Last Airbender will be a successful series with its first season.

The original The Last Airbender animated Nickelodeon series boasts a 100 percent critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning that Netflix has their work cut out for them. Max Nicholson of IGN once referred to the animated series as “one of the greatest animated series of all time,” and he’s not alone in thinking this. If showrunner Albert Kim hits it out of the park next year, we may very well experience one of the best live-action adaptations we’ve ever seen as well.
