With the Netflix group of Marvel characters now open for business in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s been intense speculation about who would be making the trip over and who would be left behind. We are starting to get more word and rumors about what the final tally will be and it’s nothing to look good for some of these folks. The latest rumor coming out of That Hashtag Show is that Disney+ is going to be recasting a couple of the Netflix heroes, resetting the characters, and leaving some of the folks behind.

In this latest rumor, it looks like for the upcoming series Heroes for Hire both Mike Colter and Finn Jones will be recast as Luke Cage and Iron First respectively. This is somewhat in line with other rumors we’ve heard in the past around these characters. While some of the Netflix crew have been part of recent discussions and even reportedly attached to upcoming series and movies, these two have appeared to be getting the short end of the stick.

It looks like Heroes for Hire will feature Iron First and Luke Cage in the lead roles considering this is where the comic book started (along with Power Man) back in the late 90s. But while others might be making moves to Marvel officially, there are plans to reboot these two in some fashion. For Finn Jones, the rumors surrounding his recasting were due to the lack of excitement and poor critical reception for Iron Fist on Netflix. That show finished at 37% on Rotten Tomatoes and was well behind some of the other programs in this world for Netflix.

But Marvel recasting Mike Colter as Luke Cage is a bit more surprising. While the audience score was a bit lower, Seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix were critical hits and fans did seem to appreciate his turn as the character on other shows like Jessica Jones and The Defenders as well. From this latest rumor, it actually has more to do with Finn Jones not returning than anything else. That Hashtag Show has it that Colter and the studio agreed that acting next to a different Iron Fist would be discordant for the viewers coming over from Netflix.

Again, these are all still rumors around the Marvel series Heroes for Hire, but based on others things we’ve heard over the last couple of months, it makes a lot of sense. As for the rest of the Netflix crew of Marvel characters, there are others coming into the mix. It looks like Charlie Cox is going to reprise his role as Matt Murdock/ Daredevil in series like Hawkeye, She-Hulk, and possibly movies as well. Plus, it looks like John Bernthal is going to reprise The Punisher on a Hulu series.

It will be interesting to see how this shakes out of Marvel. If Luke Cage and Iron Fist are recast, then it stands to reason that the studio is just resetting the stories on the others and likely not referencing much in the way of what happened on Netflix. Even though some of the faces will be similar, the stories are set to change.
