A starlet of the early aughts, Kate Bosworth populated the decade with romantic comedies to superhero films. The actor made a name for herself, known for her different colored eyes and wholesome look. Though it’s been two decades since her heyday, Bosworth has not faded from the limelight. She has many upcoming projects to look forward to. But one of her most notable roles won’t be forgotten for a long while. In a recent picture the actor posted on Instagram, Bosworth called back to one of her breakout films, Blue Crush.

Fans can see Kate Bosworth looking as though no time has passed on her social media. The pictures show the actor on the beach, harkening back to the 2002 film about surf culture in Hawaii. There’s even a video of her riding a horse along the beach. You can see the images below.

Bosworth starred in Blue Crush as Anne Marie Chadwick, a caregiver for her younger sister as well as a surf enthusiast. Blue Crush was notable for featuring young women in intense situations. Anne Marie specifically is passionate about surfing, even after she is injured during a particularly difficult wave. All she wants to do is get back on her board and surf at the Pipe Masters surf competition. The film was inspired by Susan Orland’s article “Life’s Swell” (via The Atlantic). The 1998 article highlighted the reality of girls surfing in Hawaii and painted a vivid picture that was prime for film adaptation.

Kate Bosworth was perfect for her sun bleached athletic look and it seems that she is still upholding that to this day. Blue Crush was a product of its time where sports movies seemed to be in vogue. Michelle Rodriguez’s involvement in the film makes this even more apparent. She played Anne Marie’s roommate and fellow surfer but is probably better known as Letty in the Fast & the Furious franchise. Movies of this ilk have faded in recent years, but there is a nostalgic element about revisiting them.

Blue Crush also featured the beginnings of Matthew Davis’s career. Davis cropped up here and there as the love interest. Davis romanced Kate Bosworth in Blue Crush and Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde – though with varying degrees of success. However the actor has proven to be more prolific in recent years. He appeared in The Vampire Diaries as Alaric Saltzman and now stars in the spin-off series Legacies where he teaches at a boarding school for supernaturally gifted children.

Kate Bosworth continues her career in earnest as well. After her tenure as Lois Lane in Superman Returns alongside Brandon Routh, she shed her good-girl image in Netflix’s 2019 mini series I-Land. The show contained aspects of Lost, where several strangers wake up on a beach with no memory of how they got there. The show delves into sci-fi and Bosworth depicts complex character K.C. who must deal with the consequences of her actions.

When Kate Bosworth isn’t acting, she is working on her health. There is a reason that she looks that good at 39 and wants to share her tips. Bosworth told Women’s Health that her secret was due to a low-impact exercise equipment called P.Volve. Though Bosworth calls the movements for the equipment “provocative,” she loves the results. She is working less on high-impact training such as running and more on sculpting her muscles. No one will deny that the actor is showing results.
