Apple series Invasion season 3

In a surprising development for exciting sci-fi enthusiasts, Apple TV+ appears to have (stealthily) renewed Invasion for a season 3. The tech giant did this, however, despite neglecting to release an announcement confirming the extension of the high-budget science fiction show.

Fans of the series will recall the Apple TV+ project wrapped up its ten-episode-long second season last October. Though Apple TV+ subscribers were eagerly awaiting news of a third season, the streaming service remained silent on the matter.

However, announcement or not, filming for the new season is about to commence. How do we know?

An innocuous entry FTIA’s list of productions, which reports that shooting for Invasion Season 3 will begin in February. Intriguingly codenamed “Kanji,” the series’ new season will be shot in Vancouver, Canada.

Still, sci-fi fans shouldn’t exactly take the streets yet, shouting for joy; the new seasons won’t premiere soon. The production end date, for instance, is earmarked for September. Considering the extensive post-production work such a high-budget project entails—specifically, effects work and editing—it’s reasonable not to expect the show’s debut until 2025.

This could be why Apple so subtly and undeclaratively rolled out their non-announcement for Invasion Season 3; the projected dates are somewhat anticlimactic.

Regardless, the news confirming the show’s continuation serves as a beacon of hope for Apple TV+ subscribers. The series is yet another high-quality science fiction installment by the streaming giant. Their other titles in the genre include For All MankindFoundation, and Severance.

Primarily a character-driven drama, the series—no surprises here—is set against the backdrop of an alien invasion. Operating at a deliberately slow pace, Invasion focuses more on character development than on action in its initial handful of episodes; however, season 3 should involve its fair share of confrontations.

The alien invaders are memorably and uniquely portrayed as spiky, blob-like creatures that move in a hypnotic, inside-out process unlike any previously depicted in sci-fi or horror. The creatures are gradually introduced, with the second season increasing the intensity of their involvement and intrigue surrounding their invasion of Earth.

The second season features a diverse cast of characters dispersed globally, each engaging with different aspects of the invasion. Major characters include Mitsuki (Shioli Kutsuna), driven to decode the alien language; a group of young kids journeying from London to Paris; Trevante (Shamier Anderson), a former soldier investigating a disquieting military presence in Wyoming; and Aneesha (Golshifteh Farahani), who, with the help of a mysterious alien shard, endeavors to protect her children.

With all characters and paths having converged, anticipation is high for Invasion season 3.

The last season also heightened the enigma surrounding the aliens, while advancing some clues about their nature. The narrative revealed more about them while, intriguingly, introducing more mystery–such as a communicative Jell-O-like creature and psychically connected children.

Critical reviews of the series have been mixed. While many experts praised its originality and direction—particularly the distinctive nature of the aliens—most derided the show’s slow pace.

Given that criticism, many expect Invasion Season 3 to shift towards more action-oriented storytelling as characters prepare to confront the alien threat directly. Moreover, the upcoming season should answer the questions thus far unresolved, while escalating the conflict gratifyingly.
