Idris Elba is one of the world’s most charismatic, effortlessly charming, and handsome movie stars. In just the last few years, he has starred as Thor’s best friend in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a guy who could beat up Dwayne Johnson in the Fast and Furious franchise, an immortal djinn who makes some really bad decisions, and whatever he was contractually forced into for Cats. According to Idris Elba, one of the next big steps he wants to take in his career is a logical one: he wants to fight Superman.

Per Variety, Idris Elba recently revealed that he would like to reprise his role in the DC Extended Universe as Bloodsport, and this time around, fight Superman himself. In 2021’s The Suicide Squad, it was revealed that at some point in the past, Bloodsport had shot Superman with a kryptonite bullet, almost killing him. It is not clear whether Idris Elba meant that he would like to have a scene revealing how this particular fight went down or if he would like to see a rematch or even if he actually knows himself. There has not yet been an announcement on how, when, or even if Idris Elba will return to the DC Extended Universe, but that sure would be a match-up for the ages.

The Suicide Squad starred Idris Elba as Robert DuBois, the most famous villain to use the name Bloodsport. In that film, Idris Elba was imprisoned at the infamous Belle Reve prison for superhumans after having shot Superman (presumably the version played by Henry Cavill), with a flashback scene of him being captured by Batman (Ben Affleck variant). While there is little backstory given for his version of the character, it seems that he is a super-assassin raised to be the perfect killer, which happened to be the same backstory as Peacemaker (John Cena). Also, he was British.

In DC Comics, the story of Bloodsport is a little different. The character that would one day be lucky enough to be portrayed by Idris Elba was created by John Byrne and debuted in Action Comics in 1987. While he was initially portrayed as being a violent and vengeful Vietnam War combat veteran, it eventually was revealed that Robert DuBois had actually evaded the draft and his brother Michael enlisted in his place, eventually being horribly wounded. Robert DuBois eventually fell under the sway of Lex Luthor, who psychologically conditioned him to hate Superman and equipped him with deadly high-tech weapons and kryptonite.

Idris Elba recently starred in the action thriller Beast, in which his character has to defend his family against the Superman of the animal world, a wild lion. He is also set to reprise one of his breakout roles in a film continuation of his BBC crime drama series Luther. Hopefully, we will get some word soon that Idris Elba will be returning to the role of Bloodsport because those kryptonite bullets aren’t going to fire themselves.
