Emilia Clarke’s Secret Invasion Role Accidentally Leaked By Disney?

It appears that Emilia Clarke is going to play Marvel's Abigail Brand in Secret Invastion

Secret Invasion is one of the most anticipated upcoming projects slated for the Marvel Cinematic Universe; picking up years after the events of Captain Marvel, the Skrulls have infiltrated the highest levels of the government. Along with the return of past MCU characters, a new character is showing up played by Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones and Terminator: Dark Fate); while Disney and Clarke have been secretive about the details of her role, Deadline reports that Emilia Clarke could be playing Abigail Brand in Secret Invasion

The article points out that during the trailer for the series, Emilia Clarke arrives in Secret Invasion as a spy with powers, which seems par for the course for the MCU, and there is any number of characters she could play. However, the trailer is tagged “It’s the beginning” and “Abigail Brand,” which is as close to a confirmation we are likely to get as to what Clarke’s character will be in the upcoming series.

While this may sound like an arbitrary name to the uninitiated, the droves of Marvel Comics loyals will recognize not only the name but also understand what her appearance means for the franchise’s future.

Abigail Brand is a half-human, half-alien who is the child of a human mother and an extraterrestrial father; while she has a half-brother that is a furry alien with green skin, a more important attribute of hers is the mutant gene she inherited from her mother.

Her mutation allows her increased durability; she has survived direct hits to her torso from a high-powered laser and tactile pyrokinesis, which means she can burn through almost any metal simply by touching it. While she is technically a mutant, she doesn’t always work with the X-Men. As a matter of fact, she is much better known for her work with another organization, one that Emilia Clarke could use to alter the course of the MCU in Secret Invasion

S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department) is another government organization dedicated to protecting the Earth from extraterrestrial and interdimensional threats. While S.H.I.E.L.D spends its time facing dangers on the ground, S.W.O.R.D spends its time orbiting the planet and defending against an invasion.

Emilia Clarke’s Brand becomes the agency’s commander at one point and is attacked during Secret Invasion. The attack leaves her ship crippled, she boards one of the Skrull’s ships, and frees Reed Richards from captivity.

The revelation that she is a similar character to Nick Fury as the director of a shadowy organization could signal a change of the guard, with Samuel L. Jackson and Colbie Smulders handing over the reigns to a new group of secret agents.

It could also mean that, while Reed Richards has been acknowledged in the MCU with Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Emilia Clarke could introduce the 616 version of Reed Richards in Secret Invasion, ushering the Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If Marvel does go this route, it could be the most influential project in the MCU since Marvel’s Avengers in 2012.

In addition to Emilia Clarke as Abigail Brand, Secret Invasion will include Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) banding together with other veterans of the MCU in Maria Hill (Colbie Smulders) and Everette Ross (Martin Freeman) to fight against the villain they can’t see.
