Emily Blunt says she wants John Krasinski to return as Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four. Speaking to HeyUGuys, the actress described her husband as a huge fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as she was thrilled that he had the opportunity to suit up as Mister Fantastic. But she really hopes he gets to reprise the role somewhere down the line.

“It’s a huge part of our cinematic history now,” she said of the superhero franchise. “So I hope we can see him in the role again.” Despite Blunt’s optimism, rumors suggest that Marvel Studios plans to replace John Krasinski in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot.

Potential candidates for Mister Fantastic, out forward by fans or insiders, include Penn Badgley, Glenn Howerton, and Brandon Routh. While Marvel Studios is yet to publicly comment on casting for the coveted role, The Office alum remains the only Reed Richards in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for now. Most recently, Murphy’s Multiverse claimed that Tom Ellis is being considered for Reed Richards.

While Killing Eve actress Jodie Comer is the rumored favorite for Susan Storm/The Invisible Woman, Maddie Hasson is also a contender along with Michael Provost for Johnny Storm. Jason Biggs is also said to have auditioned for The Thing, but it’s unclear if he’s being considered. However, it’s worth reiterating that none of this is official and John Krasinski could still appear in Fantastic Four.

However, previous comments by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi implied that John Krasinski’s tenure as the Fantastic Four’s leader was always temporary. “It’s so funny that Kevin cast John because the fans had a dream of who the perfect Reed Richards would be,” the filmmaker said via CBR. He added that because the story deals with an alternate universe, the Marvel boss wanted to make that dream come true.

Although John Krasinski’s future in the Fantastic Four remains uncertain, the movie has found its creative team. WandaVision director Matt Shakman is set to direct the project from a script by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. The film is scheduled to be released on November 8, 2024, and will be a part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the new movie won’t be an origin story, it will show audiences something they have never seen before.

Meanwhile, John Krasinski has been rather busy away from Marvel’s Fantastic Four. He is currently working on a fantasy comedy film called If. Written, directed, and produced by the superhero hopeful, the project features an ensemble cast that includes Ryan Reynolds, Steve Carell, Alan Kim, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fiona Shaw, Cailey Fleming, Louis Gossett Jr., and Bobby Moynihan.

The story follows a child’s journey to rediscover their imagination and is scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures on May 24, 2024. But anyone who still wants to see John Krasinski as the leader of the Fantastic Four can send their casting requests to the studio via social media. They just might hear you. and hopefully, the studio will reveal the official cast very soon.
