Adam Sandler is continuing his long and fruitful relationship with Netflix with a new comedy special. Sandler is also working with one of his best directors, Josh Safdie, to make the special. This is the second comedy special Sandler has made with the streaming company after 2018’s 100% Fresh.

Adam Sandler Worked With Safdie On Uncut Gems

Adam Sandler has worked with Josh Safdie and his brother Benny on the film Uncut Gems, one of Sandler’s all-time great performances. Sandler and the Safdie brothers followed up the critically acclaimed film with a 2020 short film titled Goldman v. Silverman. While they have mostly worked together on movies, it will be interesting to see Sandler and Josh Safdie teaming up on a Netflix comedy special instead.

Adam Sandler And The Safdie’s Bring Out The Best In Each Other

Adam Sandler is also set to lead another film for Josh Safdie about the world of sports memorabilia, though the film is currently delayed. Meanwhile, Benny Safdie is enjoying the success of his TV series with Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder, The Curse. Although we may have to wait to see Sandler’s next feature film with Josh Safdie, Sandler is busy continuing his lucrative deal with Netflix.

Sandler’s Next Film Is Spaceman

Along with Adam Sandler’s new comedy special, he is also set to release a new film with Netflix titled Spaceman. That film is set to premiere at the Berlin Film Festival before hitting the streaming service on March 1. Spaceman follows an astronaut on a mission to the edge of the solar system and also stars Carey Mulligan, Paul Dano, Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin, Sunny Sandler, and Isabella Rossellini.

Sandler Is On A Roll With Netflix

Sandler’s string of Netflix films includes the recently released animated film Leo and the live-action You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah. Previous collaborations between Sandler and the streaming service include Hustle, Murder Mystery, Murder Mystery 2, Sandy Wexler, The Do-Over, Hubie Halloween, The Out-laws, The Wrong Missy, Father of the Year, The Week Of, and The Ridiculous Six. Several of these films were part of the $275 million deal Sandler signed with Netflix in 2020 to create four movies for the streamer produced through his Happy Madison Productions banner.

Sandler’s Movies Vary In Quality But Comedy Specials Are Hits

While Adam Sandler’s projects with Netflix have been varying levels of quality, it’s safe to say that most of his efforts have been popular hits on the streamer. His last comedy special for the streamer, the aforementioned 100% Fresh, drew critical acclaim and earned a high score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Since Sandler is working with one of his best directors, there’s certainly reason to believe that his upcoming untitled comedy special will find similar levels of success.

Adam Sandler Is Teaming Up With George Clooney

Adam Sandler is also set to co-star alongside George Clooney in the upcoming untitled film from filmmaker Noah Baumbach, who also has an exclusive deal with Netflix. Baumbach previously made Marriage Story, White Noise, and The Meyerowitz Stories, which Sandler also starred in, for the streaming company. There hasn’t been a release date announced for Baumbach’s new movie or for Sandler’s upcoming comedy special, but we’ll keep you updated as more news comes in.
