The Hollywood nostalgia tour looks to be ramping up once again as Ace Ventura 3 is announced to be in the works over at Amazon. The catch to this new Ace Ventura film is that Evan Peters is rumored to be taking over the mantle as the new Ace Ventura. Before you get all hot and bothered, Peters will be playing the son of the famous pet detective.

The rumor of Evan Peters coming on board as Ace’s son was first reported by us, with our trusted and valued inside source – who also confirmed that Josh Brolin would be returning as Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that Don Cheadle would appear as War Machine in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier – saying Peters is being sought after to play the highly unorthodox pet detective’s son.

To some, having Evan Peters follow in Jim Carrey’s footsteps is a head-scratcher. Peters is not known to possess the rubbery-faced, body contorting, witty-line delivering skills of Carrey (there actually aren’t many out there who have those amazing skills), so questioning Peters’ comedic chops is, well, not out of the question. It’s not as if Evan Peters doesn’t have the ability to deliver a funny line or two. He may be best known as Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver in the X-Men franchise, where a few funny lines presented themselves to Peters, and he also reprised a version of the role in the hit Disney+ series WandaVision, where he was quite the comedian. But a few funny lines and Ace Ventura are two different beasts.

Morgan Creek is the production company behind the success that is Ace Ventura and will be in charge of the newest entry that is rumored to star Evan Peters. The first movie premiered in 1994 and though widely panned by movie critics, fans found the movie to be hilariously funny adopting the many Ace Ventura catchphrases such as “Alrighty then” and “do NOT go in there” and “lahoo-se-her.” Jim Carrey followed that up with the sequel, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, which was just as unpopular and reviled by critics, but just as over-the-top funny for audiences. But after these two box office heavyweights, the franchise took a left turn. An animated series was developed which lasted two seasons, but Jim Carrey wasn’t involved. And then the ill-fated and wholly forgotten Ace Ventura Jr: Pet Detective was made, and the bottom of the barrel was reached.

Ace Ventura Jr: Pet Detective was made over twelve years ago and according to those at Morgan Creek, fans are ready to embrace a new generation of Ace Ventura. “We’re pretty excited about our franchise developments with Exorcist and the Ace Ventura franchise – it’s noticeable from the 3 million fans chatting on the official Facebook page for Ace Ventura that audiences are clamouring for a 3rd installment,” they said to Park Circus. “During COVID, audiences have been in love and are thrilled to have beloved characters brought back with new stories. Ace Ventura will see a new day at Amazon as a major motion-picture/theatrical with the Sonic the Hedgehog writers.” Two things they did not mention were Jim Carrey and Evan Peters. While we have been able to confirm Peters’ involvement, Carrey’s possible return to one of his most beloved characters remains in question.

Is the world ready for another installment of Ace Ventura? Jim Carrey has revisited his famous characters from time-to-time, the latest being Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber To, and he is ready to make a return as Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog sequel, so a replay of Ace Ventura is possible. But what about Evan Peters as his son? Is this a role you can see Peters’ thriving in or would he be in over his head trying to keep up with Carrey? As further details about Ace Ventura 3 come out, we’ll be here to pass them along.
