Just when you thought that scientists and researchers had taken a step back from trying to wipe out human existence, a company called Throwflame rolled out a new product – robot dogs that shoot fire. That’s right. These sassy canines are ready to protect your home and loved ones with a flamethrower strapped to their backs which can shoot off a whopping 30-foot stream of fire. And, in a set of images below, you can see the terrifying protectors up close and personal.

Dubbed the Thermonator, these robot dogs are the first of their kind (something that sounds like an obvious thing) and promise to “deliver on-demand fire anywhere!” Yay! Just another technological advancement that absolutely no one asked for and that will probably end up doing more harm than good.

But, the company isn’t putting their latest piece of robot dog technology out there as a replacement for your run-of-the-mill golden retriever or rottweiler. Instead, they aim to better serve production companies looking to get that right spray of fire for their latest film or TV show.

However, knowing humans and what they can be capable of, we’re certain that sooner or later the Thermonator will be making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Over the past year and even prior, we’ve been seeing roboticists turn their focus toward animals. From spider and dog robots to snakes, scientists are leaving no stone unturned and no creature untouched for the newest foray into technology.

While the Spot robot may be the top of the line when it comes to four-legged companion bots, it would seem as though Throwflame went with a different and less capable model as the company behind Spot, Boston Dynamics, put the kibosh on giving their creations any sort of weaponry.

We applaud Boston Dynamics for seeing just how dangerous one of their inventions could be if put into the wrong hands and given any sort of firepower. With the constant worry of mass shootings, the world would truly unlock a new level of horror should a robot dog be equipped with a gun of any sort.

In fact, a flame thrower should also be a major concern for anyone nervous about what an angry and unstable human is capable of.

There’s also the chance that even someone using the robot dog’s flame-shooting powers for good could inadvertently cause chaos and destruction not only for others but for themselves as well. Just think about the horror stories told surrounding using bear spray to hold off the apex predator or someone using pepper spray in self-defense only for the wind to pick up the chemicals and push them back into their own faces.

Likewise, there’s always the chance that the wind could pick up and see the fire carried into someone’s home or other undesirable places.

In a world where unnecessary inventions are a dime a dozen and lead to casualty counts like the recent Titan submersible, we don’t see a need for a robot dog to be equipped with a cannon of fire. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like scientists are slowing down anytime soon so brace yourself for the next insane creation.
