Star Wars Rebels: Jason Isaacs Could Voice The Inquisitor

Jason IsaacsThere’s been so much talk about Star Wars: Episode VII since it started production—especially now that Harrison Ford’s leg got ripped off on set, or whatever—that we haven’t spent much time discussing the first post-George Lucas addition to the canon, the animated series Star Wars Rebels. When that show premieres this fall, the main villain the heroes will face off against will be The Inquisitor, a nasty piece of Jedi-killing work. We didn’t know much about the character, but now it is rumored that British actor Jason Isaacs may lend his voice to the role.

Isaacs has a long resume, but is best known to general audiences as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter. The Inquisitor was the first character we met from Rebels, which takes place between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Darth Vader tasks him with tracking down and killing the Jedi Knights that remain after Order 66 broke up the band. With all of the recent rumors about potential villains in Episode VII, it seems like he, or at least his methodology, could potentially play a role there. We have heard that Rebels will have a major connection to the continuing saga, though we’ll have to wait to see what that is.

InquisitorTheForce.net were the first ones to report the rumor, though Lucasfilm and Disney XD have nothing to say on the matter, as you probably expected. For what it’s worth, IMDb does list Isaacs as voicing the Inquisitor on both his individual entry and the series page. While that doesn’t always mean anything, it does nothing to rebut this report. Isaacs does certainly have the stern disposition to play a menacing agent of the Dark Side.

Set five years before Episode IV, Rebels follows a small group comprised of Sabine, Kanan, Hera, Ezra, Zeb, and Chopper. As the Empire tightens its grip on the galaxy, the seeds of what will ultimately become the Rebel Alliance begin to sprout in the outer regions as crews like this begin to defy their oppressive rulers and hope to stop the darkness from spreading.

Executive produced by Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Greg Weisman, Star Wars Rebels hits the airwaves this fall with a two-part premiere on the Disney Channel before it moves to its regular home on Disney XD. Freddie Prinze Jr., Tiya Sircar, Steve Blum, Taylor Grey, and Vanessa Marshall all lend their voices to the series. You can also expect Billy Dee Williams to reprise his Lando Calrissian role, and Obi-Wan Kenobi will stop by for a visit now and again, voiced by James Arnold Taylor.
