When J.J. Abrams was named the new director of Star Wars: Episode VII, it seemed like the sci-fi geek conversation had shifted away from Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness and onto his upcoming Star Wars movie. Now that Star Trek Into Darkness is only two months away, Paramount is doing everything they can to make sure people focus on Star Trek. Paramount has released a new teaser for the Star Trek sequel that is more action-packed and thrilling than anything we’ve seen from the movie so far. Check it out below:

From early press screenings of the first 30 minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness, it sounds like the sequel will be more exciting and heart stopping than the previous movie. The new teaser really does capture the excitement in less than a minute and a half. It also looks like Abrams is fully showing his influences. The opening looks like the movie version of the popular mobile game “Temple Run,” and there are a few scenes that are reminiscent of The Empire Strikes Back and Tron.

Recently, J.J. Abrams and Benedict Cumberbatch talked about the differences between the villains in Abrams’ two Star Trek outings, Nero and John Harrison. It sounds like the two villains are equally deadly, but completely different. Where Nero is more physical, John Harrison is more intellectual and cunning.

Star Trek Into Darkness will beam into theaters everywhere on May 17th, in 3D and IMAX.
