Amazon’s The Wheel of Time is making a long-anticipated return. The trailer for Season 2 of the hit fantasy series is out now, teasing big moments and massive reveals. The Wheel of Time begins its Season 2 run on September 1, 2023.

The Wheel of Time is based on the 14-book series by author Robert Jordan; the final three books were completed by Brandon Sanderson after Jordan’s passing. The epic tale follows a vast array of characters, anchored by the Aes Sedai (Servants of All). The Aes Sedai are channelers with the ability to harness the One Power, which is used to turn the Wheel of Time through the ages.

The Wheel of Time Season 2 debuts September 1 on Amazon Prime.

The Wheel of Time largely stuck to the first book in the series during its debut season, and Season 2 looks to draw primarily on elements from books two and three. However, the show takes several liberties; the series aged up several of its main characters, many of whom are just teenagers in the novels.

Fans of The Wheel of Time books will see many epic moments and key characters get their time in the spotlight during Season 2. The trailer depicts the involvement of the Seanchan, and clan of villains teased in the finale of the first season.

The Seanchan appears to enlist the aid of Ishmael, an enemy of Rand, the show’s protagonist. They will also acquire the Horn of Valere, the powerful artifact at the center of book two, titled The Great Hunt.

Other new Wheel of Time characters joining the roster in Season 2 are Lanfear and Elayne. Lanfear is one of the Forsaken and was the lover of the original Dragon, which contextualizes her apparent interest in Rand in the trailer.

Fan favorite Wheel of Time characters are debuting in Season 2, including Lanfear and Elayne, while Rosamund Pike returns as Moirane.

Elayne is a character that Wheel of Time book fans have been missing, but she will make her exciting debut in Season 2. She will join the characters Egwene and Nynaeve to round the young team of channelers. In the books, Elayne also becomes a love interest for Rand, hinting at more complex romantic dynamics to come.

On top of its new characters, The Wheel of Time Season 2 looks packed with new locations, massive plot points, and exciting twists on the source material that will keep even die-hard fans guessing.

Returning to the cast are series leads Rosamund Pike, who also serves as a producer on the show, Joshua Stradowski, Madeleine Madden, Daniel Henney, Zoë Robbins, Marcus Rutherford, and more. The series was created by Rafe Judkins, a writer, and producer best known for his work on NBC’s Chuck, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Uncharted.

The Wheel of Time has gone through a long journey, starting in 2000, and changing hands to four different production companies before Amazon made it work.

The Wheel of Time had a long journey to get to its Season 2 premiere. NBC optioned the rights to produce a show all the way back in 2000, but eventually abandoned the project. Another company acquired the rights in 2004, eventually producing a half-hour pilot called Winter Dragon that aired on FXX in 2015. The following year, Sony Pictures Entertainment got involved, and Amazon was revealed to be on board in 2018.

The Wheel of Time finally debuted in 2021 after halting filming for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Season 2 was greenlit before the first was even released, and now Amazon will see if their big bet on this fantasy epic pays off.  The Wheel of Time kicks off Season 2 September 1 on Amazon Prime.
