The Boys and Supernatural star Jim Beaver recently revealed that he underwent treatment for an aggressive form of prostate cancer over four years ago. Metro reported that the actor chose to keep the treatment a secret until someone revealed his diagnosis in the comments on one of his social media accounts. Fortunately, Beaver is now cancer free.

Known for playing Bobby Singer on Supernatural and Robert Singer on The Boys, Jim Beaver said that he kept the diagnosis a secret until he understood his situation better. The actor underwent hormone treatment and surgery to treat cancer, and there has been no spread since. Beaver also encouraged men to get regular prostate exams to ensure they catch problems in time, as he did.

It’s certainly a relief that Beaver is now cancer-free and can continue with his already impressive career. Along with being on Supernatural and The Boys, Jim Beaver has had a stellar career as a character actor in shows like Justified, John from Cincinnati, and Breaking Bad. Perhaps one of his best roles was as the good-natured Whitney Ellsworth in the HBO series Deadwood.

His bigger roles in the 2010s and beyond have been working with Eric Kripke, who is a showrunner and creator of both Supernatural and The Boys. Jim Beaver is far from the only Supernatural star Kripke has brought to his adult-oriented superhero show on Amazon Prime. Jensen Ackles played Solider Boy in the third season and now we’ll be seeing Jeffrey Dean Morgan appear in an as-yet undisclosed role in Season 4.

In The Boys, Jim Beaver plays Secretary of Defense Robert Singer, who is also campaigning for the Presidency. We first met his character in Season 2 when he talked to Giancarlo Esposito’s Stan Edgar about incorporating Vaught’s Supes into the military. Season 3 sees him starting his Presidential campaign.

In Season 4 of The Boys, we should definitely be seeing more of Jim Beaver’s Robert Singer. At the end of the third season, Homelander worked with Victoria Neuman (aka the Head-popper) and killed Singer’s potential running mate for his presidential campaign. This leaves Neuman as the obvious choice to join his campaign, meaning she could definitely cause some big issues for Billy Butcher, Hughie, and the rest of the gang if she can get the Vice President position.

While there’s no official release date for The Boys Season 4 yet, we know it’s well on its way. Along with Jim Beaver, we can expect to see Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, and more. It was also revealed that Nathan Mitchell would be back to play Black Noir, albeit with a new mysterious persona under the mask.

Hopefully, we can see the next season of The Boys sooner than later. In the meantime, we can be thankful that Jim Beaver is healthy and ready to provide us with more top-notch performances. Stay tuned for more news about The Boys and other hyped shows.
