Another Supernatural Star Joins The Boys Cast

By Chad Langen | Updated

Following the success of The Boys Season 3 over the summer, Amazon was quick to renew the hit series for a fourth season, which is currently shooting and expected to premiere sometime next year. Even with filming already underway, Deadline is reporting that three new actors have joined the cast, including Rosemarie Dewitt, Elliot Knight, and Supernatural star Rob Benedict, who will reunite with Jensen Ackles. While it was revealed that Dewitt would portray Hughie’s (Jack Quaid) mother in the forthcoming season, it is currently unknown which characters Knight and Benedict will play.

In Supernatural, Rob Benedict played a writer, Chuck Shurley, who was initially thought to be a prophet of the lord, but later turned out to be God. He eventually became the series main antagonist. The 52-year-old actor made his debut on The CW’s hit show during the Season 4 episode entitled The Monster at the End of This Book.

Premiering on September 13, 2005, prior to The WB and UPN merging to become The CW, Supernatural ran for a total of fifteen seasons. During that time, Rob Benedict appeared in seasons 4, 5, 10, 11, 14, and 15, which served as the show’s final season. He is prominently featured in the last season of the series, appearing in nine of the 20 episodes.

Of course, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are the primary stars of Supernatural, portraying brothers Sam and Dean Winchester. The siblings follow in their father’s footsteps as hunters, battling evil beings of many kinds, including monsters, demons, and gods that roman the earth. Rob Benedict frequently causes trouble for the pair as the villainous Chuck Shurley throughout the series.

Supernatural was created by Eric Kripke, who also served as showrunner for the show’s first five seasons. In addition to Jared Padelicki, Jensen Ackles, and Rob Benedict, the series starred Jim Beaver, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, Mark Pellegrino, and Samantha Smith. Over the course of fifteen seasons, the show was nominated for multiple Primetime Emmys in the categories of Outstanding Music Composition for a Series and Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series.

Following the episode Carry On, which aired on November 19, 2020, and served as the series finale of Supernatural, The CW announced the spin-off show The Winchesters. Unlike Jared Padelicki and Rob Benedict, Jensen Ackles reprises his role from the flagship series to narrate the story of his parents in his effort to learn about his origins. The first season consisted of just six episodes, and the network has yet to announce if they plan to move forward with a second installment.

Since Supernatural concluded, Rob Benedict has appeared in multiple television projects including Passenger List, On the Verge, Lucifer, Leverage: Redemption, and NCIS: Hawaii. The upcoming fourth season of The Boys marks his latest TV outing, and it’s currently unknown how prominent his role will be since it has yet to be announced what character he’ll be playing. With filming currently underway for the new season, however, it’s only a matter of time before more details come to light.
