It was nearly six-years ago that Netflix dropped Stargate SG-1 and it hasn’t come back. The move came almost without any warning and now it seems certain we’ll never see any Stargate show on Netflix ever again.  In today’s streaming world that’s not a problem, there are plenty of other ways to watch the various Stargate series and enough content to keep even the most ardent Stargate fan happy.

Where to watch Stargate

Where To Watch All The Stargate Series

Watch On Hulu: If you’re a Hulu member you’ll be able to stream all ten-seasons of Stargate SG-1 on the platform. They also have Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe. It won’t cost you anything, it’s included with your already paid for Hulu membership.

Watch On Amazon Prime: All ten-seasons of Stargate: SG-1 were available streaming on Amazon Prime along with very episode of Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe. However, they will drop them on July 20, 2020. It’s not clear if after that point you’ll still be able to buy them for $19.99 per season, however we do know Stargate will not longer be available free to watch for Prime members.

Watch On iTunes: You can buy the entire 1o season run of Stargate: SG-1 to stream on iTunes. If you get the entire package it’ll only run you $99.99 and you’ll have it to watch on all your Apple devices forever. They also have Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe available to stream for $19.99 a season.

Watch On Google Play: You can get Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, or Stargate Universe in the Google Play store, but it’ll cost you. You have to buy each season separately and each one costs $19.99. Getting all ten seasons will set you back a bit.

Watch On YouTube: For a time all three Stargate series were available from MGM on their Stargate Command website. Now though, they’ve abandoned that website entirely and shifted all the content that was there over to YouTube. That’s great if you’re a YouTube user, but not great if you’re poor since you’ll have to pay for it. YouTube wants $1.99 per episode to stream your favorite show. Stargate Atlantis is here, Stargate Universe is here, and Stargate SG-1 is here.

Watch On Vudu: Apparently Vudu is a streaming platform that exists and they’ve made a deal to land all ten seasons of Stargate SG-1 and every season of Stargates Atlantis and Universe too. Again this works on a pay per season system. Each season of Stargate SG-1 on Vudu will cost you $19.99. Why anyone would buy it here instead of on Amazon or iTunes is anyone’s guess, but here it is if you’re the kind of rebel that wants to go this route.

Where to Watch the Stargate Movies

Before ending its run, Stargate SG-1 produced two good direct-to-DVD movies. In a world without a Blockbuster Video it’s unlikely you still have a DVD player, so MGM has made both Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate Continuum available on various streaming platforms. They’re missing from Hulu though, which is a blow if you’ve watched the series episodes there before moving on to the movies.

In addition to the movies produced from the Stargate television universe, there’s also the original 1994 feature film which kicked the whole thing off. The 1994 Stargate movie is also available to stream on these various platforms.

Stargate Origins streaming

Where To Watch Stargate Origins

In 2018 MGM began testing the waters for a Stargate franchise resurrection by releasing a series of shorts intended as Stargate prequels called Stargate Origins. The 10-part web series was later re-cut into a feature-length film. While that was once exclusively available on MGM’s Stargate Command site, since giving up on that venture and shutting it down, MGM has dumped all their Stargate Origins content on YouTube and put it up for sale on various streaming platforms like Amazon Prime and Google Play.

Streaming Stargate Infinity

In 2002 MGM partnered with a French-Canadian animation studio to produce 26 episodes of an animated series called Stargate Infinity. The stories told in its run are not in any way considered cannon, but they’re a lot of fun.

Stargate Infinity is not easy to find streaming, but you can watch it by subscribing to a service called CONtv through Amazon Prime. It’ll cost you, but it’s a unique experience that may be worth it.

Will SG-1 Come Back To Netflix?

At issue is Stargate’s content license. Netflix doesn’t own the right to distribute any of the shows they send into your TV set, they only rent a license. The license they’re renting, in this case from MGM, has expired. They’ll have to pay MGM money to renew it, if they want their customers to have Stargate back. Since MGM is the entity standing in your way of viewing the show, you might think it a good idea to start contacting them and campaigning for Stargate’s return. It isn’t. Don’t call MGM.

If MGM thinks the show is in high-demand they’ll raise the rates they want to charge Netflix to rent it, making it even harder for Netflix to renew their contract. The fact that Netflix hasn’t renewed it yet tells you that they already don’t think it’s worth the money it would cost them. So if you want Stargate back on Netflix, your only option is to apply pressure to Netflix, letting them know that whatever price MGM is charging them is absolutely worth paying.

That said, with Stargate so widely available on nearly every other streaming platform except Netflix is probably an indicator that the show’s days on Netflix are over. It isn’t coming back. If you want it, you’ll have to pay to stream Stargate elsewhere.
