Infographic Charts Sci-Fi Worlds That Have Been Wiped From Existence

Science fiction, as a genre, is notoriously tough on planets, and even entire species of residents. Whole peoples and places are routinely blasted out of space, some naturally, while others have a little outside assistance in the matter. This applies to both real-life entities, like Earth, as well as all manner of fictional realms. If you live in a sci-fi-based world, just be warned, you’re much more likely to be wiped out of existence than your average bear. The graphic digs into some of sci-fi’s most notable incidents of planetary annihilation, including Doctor Who, Star Wars, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Battlestar Galactica, and Star Trek, both new and old. Good old-fashioned superhero comics all make an appearance. After all, Superman’s home planet of Krypton did kick the bucket when he was just a super-baby.
The infographic also charts exactly how each planet meets its end. Some are blown up by dastardly forces, such as the Death Star blasting Princess Leia’s beloved Alderaan, or Nero imploding Vulcan in the Star Trek reboot. Others are taken out by war (BSG‘s Colonies of Kobol), some die a gradual death (Krypton), while still others are simply in the way and removed by a construction crew, like Earth in Hitchhiker’s Guide.
The overriding point you should walk away from this with is that, even though your home planet has been destroyed and everyone you cared about is dead, you’re far from alone in the universe.
