Following Disney’s historic acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s movie and television assets, Marvel Studios reclaimed the rights to the X-Men and several related characters. It’s been a minute since then, and fans have been eagerly waiting to learn what Kevin Feige has planned for the mutants as they officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the highly-anticipated X-Men ’97 revival finally getting a 2023 release date, digital artist @cap.ironwidow decided to create a new live-action version of Jean Grey featuring Sadie Sink in the role. Check out Sadie Sink as the X-Men’s Jean Grey below:

In a post on Instagram, the X-Men fan shared a very cool piece of concept art that transforms Sadie Sink into (arguably) the franchise’s most powerful mutant. The image channels Jean Grey’s Phoenix persona as the young actress is seen with red-hued eyes and auburn-colored hair, showcasing how incredible she could look if given the chance to portray the character on screen. She perfectly matches the superhero’s iconic looks from the comics and, given Sadie Sink’s incredible work in the fourth season of Stranger Things, would deliver a masterful performance as the conflicted mutant.

While the Sadie Sink image is awesome, Marvel Studios has been pretty silent about their plans for the X-Men. The only indication of their arrival in the MCU was the mini Easter Egg toward the end of the Ms. Marvel season finale. After Kamala successfully cements her place as a superhero following the battle with Agent Deever, the story takes an interesting twist. While chatting with Bruno about his research into her DNA, it’s revealed that there may be some kind of “mutation” in her genetic make-up. This is why she is the only person in her family who can access The Noor. As the conversation takes place, the familiar X-Men tune briefly plays in the background.

For now, Marvel hasn’t revealed any other news about the X-Men, Sadie Sink included. So it’s unclear who might be playing the famous characters when they finally make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. However, the studio does have its sights set on bringing the Stranger Things star into the fold. As Giant Freakin Robot previously reported, Sadie Sink will be joining the MCU in the upcoming Phases. While the identity of her character hasn’t been confirmed, she will likely portray likely Thunderbolts’ Songbird, Screaming Mimi. Over the years there have been several comic book versions of the Thunderbolts.

But the most popular are the original characters who debuted in the late 1990s following the Onslaught crossover event. A complicated character, Songbird’s origin story sees her making several appearances as a villain before taking on a new role as a superhero in the Thunderbolts series. After some time away from the team, she returned in issue #144, and appeared as a supporting character when the title transitioned into Dark Avengers. Sadie Sink definitely has the talent and emotional intensity to play this complex Marvel character and would also do an incredible job as Jean Grey. Now that she’s contracted to the studio, it will be interesting to see which franchise she eventually joins.
