Thor: Love And Thunder Just Set An Embarrassing Marvel Record
Thor: Love and Thunder has been released, and it has been hit with an embarrassing Marvel record. Sadly, that record does make sense.
Despite everyone loving everything that Marvel puts out, the company is also not untouchable in terms of bad releases. Well, bad might be a bit harsh, but the MCU certainly has some less than great films in its history. Although Thor: Love and Thunder is not a terrible film by any measure, it is also not the best outing for the God of Thunder. In fact, the film now holds an embarrassing record. The newest Thor adventure is now the lowest-rated film in the series, with a 65% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Thor: Love and Thunder nearly lost out on the poorest rated film in the series, beating out Thor: The Dark World by 1%. Sure, the 1% difference does not matter that much, but Love and Thunder does have some glaring issues that have led to the film receiving this low rating. One of those big issues has everything to do with the pacing of the film. We are not given nearly enough time to see how everyone’s life has worked out since the events of Avengers: Endgame. Even worse is how amazing Christian Bale is as Gorr, but he is also not given enough time to fully develop on screen. We will admit that there are far too many dynamic characters in the film, and even having 2 hours and 30 mins to explore all those characters would have been impossible. That’s also another issue, the film was far shorter than it should have been. It sits at 2 hours and 5 mins but should have tacked on that extra 30 mins.
Despite the failings of Thor: Love and Thunder, it is still an entertaining film. The humor and cameos are fantastic, but there was just something missing. There had been plenty of rumors surrounding the film in terms of deleted scenes, but director Taika Waititi was adamant about those scenes never being added to the film. He also publicly stated that he wouldn’t be adding them to the home version of the film either. That is a much different take on things than is the usual case for directors, but he is still a fantastic filmmaker.
The entire new wave of MCU films could be why Thor: Love and Thunder was a bit odder than most others in the lineup. There are no big characters to make cameos in terms of the main Avengers team. Well, there are a few left, but adding them to the film could have been confusing to most. Again, the new Thor film isn’t terrible, but there is something missing. The low rating it has received on Rotten Tomatoes is a bit harsh, but we can understand a bit why it was given.
Thor: Love and Thunder is likely not going to end the story for Thor, and Taika Waititi has expressed interest in returning for the next film if Chris Hemsworth also returns. We would imagine that Hemsworth is going to return, as he seems to be one of the only ones in the original Avengers lineup not completely over portraying his character. Hopefully, if the pair do reunite, the next film will be a bit more enjoyable on the pacing front.
