After wowing audiences as the Caped Crusader in this year’s The Batman, Robert Pattinson has his next project lined up. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 36-year-old actor has joined the forthcoming science fiction film Mickey 17, which is being helmed by Parasite director Bong Joon-ho. The movie is based on the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton.

In addition to directorial duties, Bong Joon-ho penned the script and is co-producing the feature adaptation for Warner Bros. Along with Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo have also been tapped to star in the film. The project is currently in production and scheduled to open around the world on March 29, 2024.

At this time, it is unknown which characters Robert Pattinson or any of the other cast members will play, but Ashton’s book centered on a man known as an expendable on a mission to colonize the distance planet Niflheim. When one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After surviving a mission, in which he is left for dead, Mickey 7 returns to base, where he discovers that Mickey 8, a clone of himself, has already been created.

Although he’s best known for portraying the vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight films, Robert Pattinson seems to enjoy the more obscure roles Hollywood has to offer, and Mickey 17 looks to be right up his alley. The motion picture adaptation of Ashton’s book was announced to be in development back in January, with the actor in talks to appear in the film at the time of the announcement. All signs seem to indicate that he’s snagged the leading role in the upcoming flick.

Earlier this year, Robert Pattinson shut down the naysayers when he turned in a riveting performance as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Matt Reeves’ superhero epic The Batman. The film was a massive hit for Warner Bros., earning over $770 million globally. Additionally, the feature was a critical success, scoring an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from reviews by over 500 critics.

Following the film’s success, a sequel was reportedly put on the fast-track, but with the recent shakeups at Warner Bros. Discovery, it’s unclear at this time where Robert Pattinson and his iteration of the Dark Knight sit. A recent and quite significant shift at the company saw James Gunn and Peter Safran appointed as co-CEOs of the newly formed DC Studios. The duo is hard at work developing a slate of films to be released over the next several years, and details are extremely scarce to say the least.

Fortunately, Robert Pattinson is one of the industry’s most sought-after actors. Not only has he headlined one of the highest-grossing motion picture franchises of all time, but he’s also earned great acclaim for his performances in award-winning films like The Lighthouse and The King. Regardless as to whether he has a role as the World’s Greatest Detective in the DC Universe going forward, the future is bright for the star.
