Nicolas Cage New Sci-Fi Horror Arcadian Full Of Tension In Creepy Trailer

By Britta DeVore | Published

Nicolas Cage has long been recognized as one of the toughest hustlers in the industry, never one to turn down an acting gig if he can help it, all to get that cash. In 2023 alone, the actor starred in five films, along with a much-hyped cameo appearance as Superman in Andrés Muschietti’s The Flash. And this year is no different as, hot on the heels of Dream Scenario, which closed out the actor’s busy 2023, Nicolas Cage is back in the business of sci-fi in the trailer for Arcadian.

What would a Nicolas Cage movie be without a little bit of ridiculousness, something that can already be spotted in the short but sweet two-minute trailer for Arcadian?

The Michael Nilon-directed and penned movie ties action and horror into its sci-fi base as it follows Nicolas Cage as a father trying to protect his sons in the days following what appears to be an apocalypse caused by extra-terrestrial lifeforms. The teaser gives some heavy A Quiet Place vibes as the family patriarch and his two boys are forced to stay silent when the sun sets, boarding up their home to the spoken-about but unseen threat that lurks outside their door. Along with Nicolas Cage, Arcadian also stars Jaeden Martell (Mr. Harrigan’s Phone), Maxwell Jenkins (Jack Reacher), and Sadie Soverall (Fate: The Winx Saga).

While the story carries a very serious tone throughout (with a side of young love between one of the family’s sons and a neighboring girl), one moment features the trio of men slamming their knives into the table while Cage’s character screams, “Are we not men?” Further solidifying himself as a cinematic icon, Cage is here to kick plenty of alien butt in his latest role.

Nicolas Cage in Arcadian

As for the rest of his year, Nicolas Cage’s turn in Arcadian is just the tip of the iceberg as the actor will follow things up in another jump-scare-filled feature titled Longlegs. Not much has been released surrounding the plot of the Osgood Perkins-helmed film, but from teasers and posters, it looks like audiences are in for a real treat in a project that pits an FBI agent against Cage’s serial killer and occultist.

Compared to the last several years of his life, 2024 will be a lighter one for Nicolas Cage (at least for now), as Arcadian and Longlegs are his only projects celebrating a release. An actor with his eyes forever on the horizon, prepared to tackle whatever gig may present itself next, we know that he’ll eventually be seen in Lorcan Finnegan’s psychological thriller, The Surfer. Although it was reported that filming had wrapped back in December, it’s unclear when the title will make its way into cinemas.

Nicolas Cage and the rest of his co-stars are close to the world premiere of Arcadian as the film joins other titles, like the Ryan Gosling-led and David Leitch-helmed film The Fall Guy, to go global at this year’s SXSW festivities. Audiences can expect to catch the horror sci-fi thriller in theaters on April 12, with AMC+ and Shudder expected to offer it for streaming later this year.
