Throughout Seth Meyers’ career, the actor and comedian has showcased a range of talent on multiple shows and films. His association with producer Lorne Michaels has taken his skills to new heights with a storied gig as the head writer and performer on Saturday Night Live, onto his current role in hosting the primetime talk show Late Night with Seth Meyers. Meyers took on the Late Night franchise in 2014 after Jimmy Fallon left to do The Tonight Show, and he has been a staple in the time slot ever since. Outside of the birth of his children, some mild health scares, and regularly scheduled hiatuses, it doesn’t appear that Meyers has missed many shows until now.

According to a report by Deadline, Seth Meyers contracted COVID-19, testing positive last week for the virus. The host had to shut down production on Late Night with Seth Meyers following the news. Apparently, Meyers had contracted COVID-19 back in January of this year as well, so this is the latest health concern to hit the Late Night airwaves. Coincidentally, fellow talk show hosts Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel recently tested positive for the virus, so it seems that many of late night’s bad luck may be coming to a head. Because of the cancellation, many scheduled guests have had to get bumped, including Only Murders In The Building’s Nathan Lane, actor Adam Pally, Issa Rae, and social media star and comedian Nikki Glasser.

Unfortunately for audiences and fans of late night talk shows, concerns about contracting COVID-19 haven’t stopped there. Lastnighton.com reports that as of yesterday, Late Night with Seth Meyers is still in reruns due to Meyers’ continuing to test positive for the virus. Meyers and the crew of the show regularly test everyday in order to provide as much information to everyone working in the studio to make sure that no one falls ill during production. The uneasiness of spreading COVID-19 is still a top priority for NBC it appears, so Meyers has been isolating up until now. But good news might finally be in store via social media for Late Night with Seth Meyers!

Seth Meyers himself tweeted earlier today to his more than 4.9 million Twitter followers that the show will resume after its more than a week off of the air. In his tweet, Meyers confirmed that tonight’s episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers will be taken out of reruns and air live. According to NBC’s website, the scheduled guests for tonight’s episode are supposed to be performer Billy Porter and journalist Jane Mayer, but they were most likely scheduled prior to Meyers’ health scare, so it has not been confirmed yet who will be the guests for the first show back. Nevertheless, it will be fun watching Seth Meyers come back to television after a long time away, something the writing staff and crew are probably happy about as well.
