It’s one thing for an actor to convince audiences with their line delivery in a film, but these days, an extra layer of authenticity is added in the form of body transformations that get you a feature in Men’s Health. It’s safe to say that Jonathan Majors did his homework while preparing for his role as Damian “Dame” Anderson in Creed III. Majors, who plays Donnie’s (Michael B. Jordan) latest adversary in the Creed franchise, went through a year of high-level training to ensure he was in the best shape of his life for the role in the boxing film.

While Jonathan Majors can thank his genetics and overall healthy lifestyle for his physique, let’s give credit where it’s due and acknowledge that the Lovecraft Country star worked out intensely under the guidance of Mark “Rhino” Smith. Smith comments on the 33-year-old actor’s devotion to his fitness regimen, saying that if he were pushed to do 10 more reps, Majors would double up and do 20 more. The daily routine included straight-arm lat pulldowns, close grip pull-ups, and leg raises to round it all off.

The Creed franchise (now streaming on HBO Max)has been highly successful, and we have no doubts that Creed III will continue the legacy. Though we won’t be graced with the presence of Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), we do not doubt that Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors will carry the show. The saga picks up where Creed II left off, and we will see former childhood friends at each other as they fight for their reputations in the boxing ring.

And we better hope that Jonathan Majors is in top form because his character, Dame, is both a boxing prodigy and an ex-con trying to make a name for himself. When a character has nothing to lose, he lashes out at everybody trying to help him, even Donnie. Grinding it out at the gym only makes sense for Majors because if Dame is truly a force to be reckoned with, he has to look threatening on screen.

Though it’s not all work and no play for the Quantumania villain. While referring to Jonathan Major’s workout routine as intense would be an understatement, Majors appears to be having a lot of fun in the gym. It’s clear that Majors is a highly motivated individual and enjoys pushing himself while preparing for a role. His hard work is paying off, too, because anybody whose physique and stature is a threat to the seemingly now unbeatable Donnie clearly spent a lot of time at the gym.

Creed III premiered on March 3 and has already racked up $22 million on opening day. The Creed franchise is successful for many reasons, but largely because it shows the devotion and struggle that comes with being the very best in the world of professional fighting. This devotion is clear both on-screen and off-screen when considering Jonathan Majors and his fitness regimen. It’s one thing to act the part, but Major’s entire body transformation tells us that he’s lived it as well.
