Before landing the role of Finn in Disney’s Star Wars franchise and being eyed for a part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, John Boyega was apparently a poster child for a course on puberty. In a hilarious above image shared to Twitter by user @alexisdumb_, a young Boyega is featured in the middle of a line of students with an enormous smile on his face. The post reads, “hey @JohnBoyega why are you in my child development lecture about puberty?”

John Boyega, who is known for his sense of humor, retweeted the photo with the simple explanation, “We all gotta start somewhere,” followed by a laughing emoji. So far, the actor’s post has received over 100,000 likes, and it’s been retweeted by nearly 6,000 users. Additionally, hundreds of his followers have taken to the comments to poke fun at the star’s early modeling gig.

Although these days things look a lot different for John Boyega in terms of his career, he certainly didn’t achieve stardom overnight. He was a student at the Identity School of Acting, appearing in several theater productions. His first onscreen role came in 2005 when he starred in the short feature Riding with Sugar.

In 2011, he landed the part of Danny Curtis in the BBC television series Being Human, and his breakout role came the same year in the horror comedy Attack the Block. In the Joe Cornish-directed film, John Boyega played the character Moses, the leader of a gang of teenagers in South London who fight to defend their block against an alien invasion. The movie was a hit with critics and Boyega was praised for his performance.

John Boyega went on to appear in several other independent projects before being cast in the series 24: Live Another Day, where he played Chris Tanner. The show was a 12-episode continuation of the Emmy Award-winning series starring Kiefer Sutherland. The initial series ran for a total of eight seasons on FOX.

On April 29, 2014, John Boyega landed the role of Finn in Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, which catapulted him to stardom. The long-awaited sequel was released in theaters on December 18, 2015, and at the time, it smashed the record for the biggest opening weekend of all time with a jaw-dropping $248 million. Currently, it’s ranked as the fourth highest-grossing motion picture in history at over $2 billion.

John Boyega went on to reprise the role in Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi and Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker, with both pictures being monster hits for Disney. Additionally, the sequels further cemented the actor’s status as a bonified movie star. He also appeared as Finn in several spin-off projects including the television series Star Wars: The Forces of Destiny and the videogame Star Wars: Battlefront II.

Although John Boyega has opted to take a break from starring in mega-blockbusters, he remains quite active in the industry. He recently appeared in the acclaimed period drama The Woman King alongside Viola Davis, and he’s set to return as Moses in Attack the Block 2, which is currently in pre-production. Needless to say, the 30-year-old actor has come a long way since his days as a poster child for lectures about puberty.
