Henry Cavill Superman

With a new Superman reboot coming, should we give up on ever seeing Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel again? It sounds like the actor himself hasn’t yet given up. He’s had to hold onto hope for a long time now. While he’s appeared as Clark Kent in other projects, the first solo movie happened in 2013. By all means, we should have seen a sequel happen by now. Recently, a new Superman project was announced. The story is being produced by the production company J.J. Abrams owns. Ta-Nehisi Coates is writing the script. Not much has been officially announced for that project, but it’s understood that Cavill will not be appearing. The actor has yet to say anything publicly, but reportedly, he’s had a lot to say behind the scenes.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Henry Cavill is dead set on playing Superman again. He wants to prove himself in the role. Currently, he is angry at everyone at Warner Bros. Richtman has previously said that Cavill is placing the blame for his current situation on DC Films President Walter Hamada. From what Richtman tells his Patreon followers, it sounds like Cavill is desperate to get back in the cape and looking for a way back into DC’s schedule.

Of course, it never really made sense that there wasn’t a sequel to the 2013 Man of Steel. This was where we first saw Henry Cavill as Clark Kent. While the movie was more well-liked by some than others, this was the real start of the DC Extended Universe as we know it today. Man of Steel earned a respectable $668 million at the box office. So why haven’t we seen Man of Steel 2

Man of Steel 2

Many theorize that this was realistically due to poor planning. DC wasn’t properly prepared for its own success. They didn’t have a thorough plan for Henry Cavill as Superman. They wanted to widen their universe and build out the stories as fast as they could. Competitor Marvel had been doing well for several years at this point after the release of Iron Man in 2008. DC scrambled to catch up.

Filmmaker Zack Snyder was the architect behind the early DC Extended Universe. He followed up the solo Superman with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which critics panned. Snyder then worked on Justice League, which we’re only now getting to see his cut of. While Henry Cavill played Superman in both of these movies, Snyder didn’t have Man of Steel 2 on his schedule. DC focused their attention on these movies and new projects like Wonder Woman. In short, it looks like DC had other priorities and somehow just forgot about Cavill.

Now, they’re ready to pick up Superman again, but they want a whole new direction. While they haven’t officially said that Henry Cavill is out, he does seem to be sadly left behind. Is there really still a chance that DC will bring Cavill around for a new solo project? Realistically, we live in a time where Bill & Ted just returned with a rocking sequel. While DC seems to have forgotten about Cavill up to this moment, there’s room for hope that The Witcher star could be seen in the cape again. Especially if fans continue rooting for him.
