They may be working together again, but it won’t be for Hercules or Aladdin 2. Our trusted and proven sources tell us Henry Cavill (The Witcher) has lined up yet another collaboration with Guy Ritchie (Snatch), to play a role that sounds a bit outside the box for the former Man of Steel. Cavill will play the con man protagonist of Ritchie’s upcoming Universal Pictures’ feature, Cipher Conundrum.

The logline for Cipher Conundrum says Henry Cavill plays a charismatic con artist who is recruited by a shadowy intelligence agency. His mission is to infiltrate an underground criminal syndicate that specializes in high-stakes heists and encrypted messages.

We’ve exclusively learned Henry Cavill will lead Guy Ritchie’s Cipher Conundrum, from Universal Pictures.

This is intriguing news, particularly when you consider the roles Henry Cavill is typically known for. His most famous roles remain as the former big screen Superman and as the former lead of Netflix’s The Witcher. His other leading parts likewise tend to be characters skilled in violence, including his espionage roles in 2015’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and 2018’s Mission: Impossible — Fallout.

Playing a con man — characters who typically survive on their wits and their quick-talking — is something a little new for Henry Cavill. Not to mention that considering Cipher Conundrum‘s antagonists deal in encrypted messages, it seems likely Cavill’s hero will have to be a lot more computer-savvy then, say, Geralt of Rivia.

Henry Cavill And Guy Ritchie

By the time Cipher Conundrum hits theaters, it will mark at least the fourth collaboration between Henry Cavill and Guy Ritchie. While The Man from U.N.C.L.E. remains the only film they’ve both worked on that has been released, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare — directed by Ritchie — wrapped principal photography in April. The film is based on the real life story chronicled in the 2014 book Churchill’s Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII by Damien Lewis.

As with so many other projects these days, it’s just about impossible to predict when we can see Henry Cavill as the hero of Cipher Conundrum.

Then there’s the untitled Ritchie film which Deadline reported on in May. Henry Cavill will reportedly be joined by Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza González, the latter of whom will also appear with Cavill in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. The outlet reports that the film will feature two “extraction specialists” (presumably Cavill and Gyllenhaal) trying to effect the escape of a “high-level female negotiator” (presumably González).

As with so many other projects these days, it’s just about impossible to predict when we can see Henry Cavill as the hero of Cipher Conundrum. With plenty of other projects on both Cavill and Ritchie’s to-do lists, not to mention the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes, it would be irresponsible to even speculate a date. When we know, we’ll make sure you know.
