Official Star Wars social media accounts recently appeared to suggest that Star Wars: Ahsoka is ending after its eighth episode, leaving fans and entertainment journalists frantically seeking clarity. The confusion arose when the official Star Wars account on X posted that fans should prepare for the “series finale” of Star Wars: Ahsoka.

The official Star Wars account on X referring to the upcoming Ahsoka episode as a “series finale” has left fans wondering about the future of the series.

Star Wars: Ahsoka has a finale coming up this week, but it’s only supposed to be the end of the series’ first season, not the end. In an age when even beloved and seemingly popular series can get canceled from streaming services at the drop of a hat, Star Wars social media account followers were understandably worried that this could mean the end for Star Wars: Ahsoka. Though media outlets reached out to Lucasfilm on the matter, the company did not make any comment regarding the confusing posts.

In short order, however, the posts referring to Star Wars: Ahsoka‘s series finale were either deleted or edited to refer to the “season finale.” This quick change would appear to indicate that the original posts contained a typing error and were not, as was feared, a mishandled announcement of the end of the series. This should come as a huge relief to fans who, in the current production climate, had every reason to fear that their favorite series was coming to an end.

While it is now apparently clear that Star Wars: Ahsoka is not intended to end with its next episode, the fact remains that the series has not been officially picked up for a second season. Still, it seems to be a very popular offering on Disney+ as the company has bragged about high viewership numbers for the series—14 million views—in a recent press release. The online buzz surrounding the series has also been significant, especially following the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker.

Characters from Star Wars: Ahsoka are also rumored to be featured in an upcoming movie in the franchise, which will likely follow another season of the Star Wars series The Mandalorian and a second season of Ahsoka. Whether this turns out to be the case or not is yet to be seen and even though the WGA strike has ended, with the SAG-AFTRA strike still ongoing, production in Hollywood remains on pause. With writers returning to work, however, script work and development can begin again in earnest, meaning that the futures of the Ahsoka series and that rumored movie could already be in their earliest stages.

With the eighth and final episode of the first season of Star Wars: Ahsoka coming out this week, fans will surely be eager for a follow-up. What that follow-up will look like and how soon it will happen remain yet to be seen, and in a Hollywood environment that is currently still managing major production slowdowns, it could be a while yet. In the meantime, we’ll be looking forward to learning how this fan-favorite character will continue her adventures.
