After the trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game was removed, fans became concerned that the release had been scrapped. Fortunately, this is not the case, as Sony explained that the clip was pulled due to an expired music license. “As part of normal business, we delist assets with licensed music when the licenses expire,” a Sony spokesperson said in an official statement.

Responding to rumors and speculation that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was officially canceled due to the trailer being removed from YouTube, Sony says the video was taken down because of an expired music license.

Removing the trailer is just another problem added to the list of challenges that the Star Wars: KOTOR remake has encountered while Aspyr deals with internal disruptions. There have also been discussions about transferring the game project to Saber Interactive, but an official confirmation still needs to be provided.

In September 2021, Aspyr, in collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced the development of a new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The remake would feature upgraded graphics and was planned for release on Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 5. It was also revealed that it would initially be a timed console exclusive for PlayStation 5.

The game’s enduring popularity has resulted in re-releases and adaptations, including an enhanced edition.

At the time, lead producer Ryan Treadwell emphasized their commitment to rebuilding Star Wars: KOTOR from scratch using the latest technology while preserving the beloved storyline that fans cherished. Several key figures from the original game, including former BioWare developers and Jennifer Hale, who reprised her role as Bastila, were confirmed to be part of the team.

However, some original cast members, like Tom Kane, could not return due to medical reasons. Others had passed away. Apart from these details, not much information about Star Wars: KOTOR was revealed at that time. In July 2022, an indefinite delay in the remake’s development was announced following the abrupt dismissal of the game’s art and design director at Aspyr.

The decision came after a presentation of a vertical slice demo to Sony and Lucasfilm, which did not meet the expected standards. As a result, Aspyr put the Star Wars: KOTOR project on hold, with the game’s release, initially intended for 2022, potentially postponed until 2025. In August 2022, it was reported that Aspyr had been removed from the project, with Saber Interactive taking over.

The story is set 4,000 years before the events of the films, during a galactic conflict between the Jedi and Sith. Players assume the role of a character with amnesia, discovering their connection to the Force and choosing between the light and dark sides.

The game’s enduring popularity has resulted in re-releases and adaptations, including an enhanced edition. The remake aims to introduce the classic RPG to new audiences. Star Wars: KOTOR remains a beloved classic that captures the essence of the Star Wars universe in an engaging and memorable gaming experience.
