Chris Hemsworth Playing This Major Role In Sonic The Hedgehog 2?

Chris Hemsworth is definitely one of the most popular actors in Hollywood today. Thanks to his work as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, he has branched out into a number of other roles that have garnered an equally impressive amount of success. But, if a new rumor is true, it looks like the once and future God of Thunder could be lending his talents to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and could even be breaking new ground for his career.
Insider Daniel Richtman (via We Got This Covered) is claiming that Chris Hemsworth is being eyed for a role in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Richtman does not elaborate exactly what role this would be, but there is one role that could make a ton of sense for the actor: Knuckles the Echidna. The character has been heavily rumored for the sequel. At first, it was assumed that it would amount to little more than a cameo in the movie similar to how Tails showed up in the first film. But, rumors have persisted that Knuckles will have a much more prominent role to play in the film.
Could Chris Hemsworth be voicing Knuckles? Other than an upcoming bit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe animated series What If…?, the Australian actor has never done voice work for an animated character before. It could mark a big moment for him in his career and possibly open the doors to doing even more voice work. And depending on the direction Sonic the Hedgehog 2 goes with Knuckles, Chris Hemsworth could also bring a lot of comedic charm to the character that would help instantly endear him to a new generation of fans both young and old.
We have been hearing some pretty wild casting rumors for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, so adding Chris Hemsworth to the mix is not the biggest of surprises. It sounds like the studio definitely wants to get a notable actor to play the voice of Knuckles. While some of the other rumored actors might be a little pricier, Hemsworth might be willing to take the role for a smaller amount of money since it would only involve voice recording and it’s a facet of the acting business that he is not as familiar with. Regardless, it seems pretty clear that the studio wants the audience to be able to recognize the actor playing Knuckles.
But, it could be just as possible that Chris Hemsworth is not playing Knuckles and could be playing an on-screen role in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. There have been reports of a human character named Randall in the sequel that will play an important part in the sequel. Much like the first film cast James Mardsen and Jim Carrey in important human roles, it could be that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is looking to nab Hemsworth for a live-action facet of the story. Hey, we doubt anyone is going to bemoan seeing more of him on the big screen.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is currently slated to hit theaters in 2022. We will have to see if Chris Hemsworth ends up being part of the ensemble in one way or another when the movie releases next year.
