For ardent lovers of romantic films, the Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams starrer The Notebook is the gospel from God itself. Even today, almost two decades since the film was released, its iconic scenes, beautiful dialogues, and above all the heart-breaking performance by Gosling are still remembered. And apparently, we common folks aren’t the only ones still obsessing over the 2004 film as Brie Larson has recently proved that she belongs in the Ryan Gosling fan club.
In her latest post on Instagram, Brie Larson shared a picture where she is balancing herself on one leg while positioning her body as if she is about to take flight. Confused? Well, she clarifies the mystery in her caption, where she reveals that she is mimicking Rachel McAdam’s Allie Hamilton from the famous bird scene in The Notebook: “Can you tell I watched The Notebook before taking this? Cue *If you’re a bird, I’m a bird*.” The film, based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks, depicted Allie and Ryan Gosling’s Noah Calhoun in the 1940s as a young couple passionately in love with each other.
The scene mentioned by Brie Larson takes place in the early days of their romance before circumstances separate the star-crossed lovers for years. In the scene, Allie is seen running around in the sea and telling Noah that if she is ever reincarnated, she will take birth as a bird. She proceeds to flap her imaginary wings to convince her boyfriend before running to him. Noah lifts her in his arms and lovingly confirms that, “If you’re a bird, I’m a bird.” Looks like we weren’t the only ones swooning over the scene even after all these years.
Well, while Brie Larson will need all the practice to be a bird in this lifetime, she is already a beloved superhero. The actress is all set to reprise her role as the mighty Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers in the upcoming The Marvels, which will also star Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan a.k.a. Ms. Marvel. Apart from properly debuting Carol in the present timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the film is also expected to solve many mysteries left unanswered by the previous projects, especially the reason behind the turbulent relationship Monica shares with Carol (teased in WandaVision) after idolizing her throughout her childhood.
It has also been speculated for some time that since Iron Man and Captain America are gone, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel will be leading the old and new Avengers. While the chances of her leading the mighty superhero team are uncertain, it sure looks like that she will be helming a mini group of her own. Larson recently shared a picture of a medal, featuring a new logo that reflects all three superheroes in the upcoming film- Captain Marvel, Spectrum (Monica), and Ms. Marvel. This seems to hint that the trio will not be joining forces for just one mission. Hopefully, they are destined to be a badass superhero team within the MCU.
While that may or may not happen, we still have Brie Larson’s unique mix of quirky and awe-inspiring posts to binge on!
