Brie Larson is producing and helping to creatively develop a new Fast and Furious spinoff focused around her character, who has been revealed to be named Tess. According to our trusted and proven sources, the upcoming Fast X film will not just be Brie Larson’s introduction to the franchise, but a launching pad for her own feature. This will be the second spinoff of the billion-dollar series to date and the first female-led film in the franchise.

There are few details available as to what role Brie Larson will play in the next Fast and Furious movie (except for being named Tess, which is not much to go on). It has been hinted by series mastermind Vin Diesel that she might not be part of the Toretto Family and it is entirely possible she will actually be an adversary of the team of street racers-turned-globetrotting-mercenaries. However, that does not mean that she will be a villain, given that the Toretto Family’s enemies have an odd habit of ending up as their bosom buddies.

Brie Larson is reportedly an enormous fan of the Fast and Furious series and leaped on the chance to join yet another huge film series as soon as she could. In addition to the Academy Award-winning actress, Fast X will star new actors like Jason Momoa (as the confirmed antagonist of the movie), Alan Ritchson, Daniela Melchior, and legendary actor Rita Moreno. On top of that, the movie will star returning actors Charlize Theron (as the villainous, super-hacker Cipher), Cardi B, and John Cena.

Regardless of the role that Brie Larson is taking on with the Fast and Furious series, it is clear that she intends to keep going with it. The only spinoff of the franchise so far was 2019’s Hobbs & Shaw, starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, which seems unlikely to be getting a sequel any time soon. While the David Leitch film was a solid commercial hit, grossing $760 million at the global box office, both Johnson and Statham appear to have moved onto other things, which is to say, Black Adam and the next Expendables movie.

It is very understandable that Universal Pictures would look to expand the franchise outward, considering Vin Diesel has said that the main series will come to an end with an eleventh film. Brie Larson anchoring a Fast and Furious spinoff would be a pretty great escape hatch for the studio to hang onto when the main series ends.

In addition to her upcoming part in Fast X, Brie Larson is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in The Marvels, alongside Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. It is currently unknown how long Larson will be sticking around in the MCU, so hopping aboard one of the other major franchises in modern cinema is a pretty good move. We will continue to update you about the status of the Brie Larson Fast and Furious spinoff as we get details.
