Anthony Anderson Hospitalized After On-Set Brawl

Is there a growing trend of actors doing their own stunts, and just how cool is that to have a Hollywood celebrity doing all the neck-breaking on the set for the sake of authenticity? Well, it depends on who you ask. If you ask actor Anthony Anderson, known for performing his own stunts, he’ll say that stuntpeople are extremely necessary on set—particularly now, after he suffered an injury during an on-set brawl.

Anthony Anderson Lost A Fight To A Chair

For context, Anthony Anderson hasn’t been in a fight, there hasn’t been an underlying feud between actors, and no fight broke out on set. This is just filming gone wrong, and while those situations are mostly funny to the rest of us, they’re no longer funny to Anthony Anderson. Namely, the actor spent the night in the emergency room after suffering contusions on his back from getting hit by two movie goons wielding a chair. Or chairs, for that matter. Fortunately, the actor hasn’t sustained any fractures, only a deep contusion.

For those unfamiliar with injuries and medical jargon, contusions occur when a blunt object impacts the body. A direct blow, or a series of repetitive blows, crushes the underlying connective tissue and breaks down muscle fibers without causing a break in the skin. In other words, that’s one massive color-changing boo-boo. Despite his injuries, Anthony Anderson still hasn’t lost his sense of humor; besides saying that he’s no longer young and should have a stunt double, the actor also posted a picture of the brawl winner—the chair.

Anthony Anderson Injured On Set Of A New Action Film

He added that the chair sucker-punched him in the kidneys (which hurts) and back without a shred of mercy. He jokingly added that the chair was grinning when he arrived at the set. But there’s no mention of the goons that helped the chair jump Anthony Anderson. The new movie should be called 2 Goons, 1 Chair & an Injured Anthony Anderson. However, as funny as that sounds, the actor was injured on the set of his next film, an action thriller directed by Patricia Riggen and written by Logan and Noah Miller, called G20.

G20 Has An Amazing Cast

G20 is an upcoming American action thriller in which terrorists take over the G20 summit with US President Taylor Sutton, prompting her to use her governing and military experience to defend her family, company, and the world. Besides Anthony Anderson, whose role in the film is still unknown, G20 also features Viola Davis and Anthony Starr. The production suffered a massive blow due to last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike and has continued in January 2024, with Marsai Martin, Ramón Rodríguez, Douglas Hodge, Elizabeth Marvel, Sabrina Impacciatore and Clark Gregg among the cast.

As for Anthony Anderson and his injury, perhaps this could be a warning to all 53-year-old actors. Sure, you might be fit, but at 53+ years, it’s time to kick back and let the stunt double earn his pay.
