Sadly, it seems that actor Anne Heche is officially dead after slipping into a coma following a car crash in Los Angeles last week. A friend of Heche’s took to Instagram to announce the news. Heche was only 53 years old. Though Heche was reported to be in stable condition after the initial accident on August 5, her condition worsened, and was in critical condition. On Friday, her family released a statement that she was being kept on life support to see if her organs were eligible for donation, and it was announced earlier today that she would be taken off life support.

Hollywood has certainly lost a great actor with Anne Heche‘s passing. Her acting career started in the early 1980s with her role in the TV series Another World. She would rise to prominence in the late 1990s, especially in 1997. In 1997, she starred in three of her most well-known roles. She starred opposite Johnny Depp in the gangster drama Donnie Brasco and she also starred in Wag the Dog and Volcano that year. The following year, she would star in the action-adventure film Six Days Seven Nights opposite Harrison Ford. Heche has previously praised Ford for his continued professionalism on the film while she was facing homophobic backlash for her relationship with comedian Ellen DeGeneres. She would also star in Gus Van Sant’s Psycho remake that year.

Anne Heche would go on to star in various films and shows after her big ’90s roles. She had notable roles in movies like Rampart, Cedar Rapids, My Friend Dahmer, and Catfight. She also appeared on Dancing with the Stars in 2020. Heche also had a variety of upcoming projects before she passed, so it remains to be seen what becomes of those. If you’re interested in learning more about Heche, she released a memoir in 2001 called Call Me Crazy which details her life and upbringing. Her book describes her tumultuous childhood, which included a lot of moving and tragedy. Her father and brother died within three months of each other when she was 13. Heche also alleges years of sexual abuse from her father. Following her father’s death, Heche’s mother engaged in a crusade against homosexuality, which led to her estrangement from her daughter due to Heche’s own sexual preferences. In 2015, Heche had still not reconnected with her mother. In 2006, Heche’s sister Susan died of brain cancer. She was estranged from his sister Abigail for 20 years before they eventually reconnected.

Anne Heche leaves behind her sibling and two sons. Her first son she had with ex-husband Coleman Laffoon, who she married in 2001 and divorced in 2009. She also leaves behind her son who she had with Men in Trees co-star James Tupper. Heche will be remembered for the wit and intelligence that she brought to her roles. During a panel at the Television Critics Association press tour, it was revealed that Anne Heche’s next project Girl in Room 13 will still be moving forward with a September release. We’ll keep you updated on if we’ll be seeing any of other Heche’s projects that were in the works.
