Madonna was rushed to the hospital recently after being found unresponsive in her New York City home. According to the New York Post, the 64-year-old pop legend had to be intubated overnight Saturday following her admission to the ICU.

Madonna’s longtime manager Guy Oseary posted an update on the singer’s condition to Instagram Wednesday, informing fans that the Material Girl was suffering from a “serious bacterial infection.”

The still-unnamed infection led to a several-day stay in the ICU for the MTV icon, but she’s recently been deemed stable enough to move to a regular hospital ward. Oseary stated in his Instagram post that, in time, Madonna is expected to make a full recovery. Reports say Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon, 26 hasn’t left her mother’s side since she was admitted almost a week ago.

Madonna, born Madonna Louise Ciccone, was all set to begin a major world tour next month before she suddenly fell ill. The singer’s manager has since alerted fans that in light of recent events, the upcoming Celebration tour will have to be postponed indefinitely.

Oseary did, however, promise to give details, including the tour’s new start date and a list of rescheduled tour dates, as soon as he has them.

The postponed tour was originally scheduled for over 53 shows across North America and Europe on July 15. The “Vogue” singer had promised to perform a setlist consisting of all her greatest hits from 1983’s “Lucky Star” off of her self-titled debut album Madonna to “I Don’t Search I Find” from the star’s 14th studio album, 2019’s Madame X.

Just three days before being admitted to the ICU, Madonna was on social media celebrating her twin daughter’s graduation from elementary school. The Queen of Pop referred to Stelle and Estere—both ten years old—as “2 Kweens” and wished them a “Happy Graduation!”

The singer has six children in total, daughters Lourdes, Stelle, and Estere, along with sons Rocco, 22, and David Banda, 17, and daughter Mercy, 17. All of them are no doubt worried sick about their mother right now.

The CDC claims that more than 23,000 Americans die each year from a range of fatal bacterial infections. While the particular bacterial strain plaguing Madonna has not been disclosed, given her admission to the Intensive Care Unit, it’s safe to say it was one of the more deadlier varieties.

Madonna could have contracted the infection in any number of ways, including eating undercooked chicken or meat and international travel.

The method by which the singer picked up the life-threatening infection may matter to the medical professionals treating her, but for Madonna’s millions of fans all over the world, the only thing that matters is that the singer is on the mend.

Madonna has been a pop-culture fixture since the early ’80s and, despite having started her career over 40 years ago, remains relevant today. Generation after generation has discovered the singer and her infectious brand of pop hits.

With any luck, this health scare will soon be just one more page in the book of Madonna’s life. Hopefully, the star will make a full recovery and go on to inspire the next generation of pop singers.
