By now, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Disney is shifting the way it will be moving forward with the release of content. For fans of a certain franchise that takes place in a galaxy far, far away, we’ve got some bummer news for you as the rumored Daisy Ridley-led Star Wars flick seems to have been canned. What’s even worse is that it sounds like the star who played Rey in the sequel trilogy, hasn’t been informed that her project has been cut from the studio’s slate.

Daisy Ridley Reportedly Hasn’t Been Informed

News surrounding Daisy Ridley’s next adventure with Star Wars began to circulate at the beginning of the year, with the film title rumored to be New Jedi Order. The production, which was then speculated to be under the vision of filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, was seemingly put on the back burner by Disney CEO Bob Iger as the studio regrouped and new plans began to come to the surface. Unfortunately, from what it sounds like today, the title has been completely erased with the leading lady being none the wiser.

Bob Iger Confirms That Disney Quietly Cut Movies From Its Lineup

The rumor mill started working overtime after recent comments from Bob Iger that cited that, under his reign, Disney would be slicing and dicing numerous productions. Revealing his gargantuan move on an investors call, a bit of intrigue still hung over what those titles would be as Iger never shared the intel on precisely which films didn’t make the cut. Therefore, should Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars flick now have vanished from the public eye, the actress is just about as in the know as we are.

The Mandalorian & Grogu Is A Sure Thing… For Now

Star Wars movies have been quite the challenge for Disney to get up and running with, as far as we know, the only movie that’s officially moving forward to be the Jon Favreau-helmed The Mandalorian & Grogu – a spin-off of the streamer success.

As for Daisy Ridley’s off-shoot, the Star Wars flick was rumored to be already hitting speed bumps in the early days of realization with its writer, Steven Knight, and Lucasfilm. Allegedly, after handing in the first draft, the studio passed the copy back covered in notes, forcing Knight to completely start over.

The Daisy Ridley Rey Movie Was Doomed From The Start

Even before Steven Knight was tasked with penning the Daisy Ridley-led Star Wars film, the movie had been in trouble. In its even earlier stages, names like Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were signed on to get to work on a screenplay but before all was said and done, both writers would depart the project, leaving room for Knight to step in.

With plenty of other projects waiting in the wings (including the Peaky Blinders movie), Knight’s schedule may soon not allow any more time to be spent on a Rey Skywalker-centered movie.

Daisy Ridley Is The New Face Of Disney’s Star Wars Franchise

After entering the universe in J.J. Abrams’ 2015 feature, The Force Awakens, Daisy Ridley became just as synonymous with the Star Wars franchise as other long-time faces like Mark Hamill, Hayden Christensen, and Carrie Fisher. Along with other stars including Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, and Adam Driver, Ridley pushed the sequel trilogy into uncharted territory.

With fans torn on how the movies turned out, a standalone Rey Skywalker project has always been a risky move, and, as Disney is now restructuring, it may be that it was just too much of a chance for the House of Mouse.
