Season 3 of Prime Video’s The Boys brought with it some absolutely insane storylines and characters, as well as twists and turns that were undeniably diabolical. One of the most anticipated and exciting reveals was that of Supernatural alum, Jensen Ackles stepping into the role of Soldier Boy. And, although the final moments of the third season saw Soldier Boy going back into a frigid sleep, an Instagram photo, that you can see above, shows the actor flexing his muscles in a shot that may mean Soldier Boy will be back sooner than anticipated.

Cheekily captioned, “More like Shoulder Boy, innit”, the photo reveals an absolutely jacked Jensen Ackles posing post a heavy iron pump. With a full beard that was seen unruly growing out on Soldier Boy’s face during the latest season, the actor gives his best flex. Tattoos and all, Ackles looks like he’s ready to tackle the Boys, Vought, or whoever else stands in his way of seeking revenge against his old team, aptly nick-named Payback.

Season 3 brought back a ton of familiar faces from the series including Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Tomer Capone, Laz Alonso, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Karen Fukuhara, Chase Crawford, Jessie T. Usher, Dominique McElligot, Nathan Mitchell, and Colby Minifie. With daddy issues lurking around every corner, the season was littered with knock down drag out fights that eventually would see some of our hero’s intentions called into question. Along with Soldier Boy, several other characters would seemingly bow out during the third season, but as with all our favorite superhero based universes, who knows – they could pop up again.

Outside his role on The Boys, Jensen Ackles has had an incredibly busy and fruitful year. He upgraded to a regularly appearing role on ABC’s Big Sky and co-created, as well as stars in The CW’s Supernatural prequel series, The Winchesters. Formed alongside his wife Danneel Ackles and Supernatural alum Robbie Thompson, the series follows the early days of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester’s (Ackles) parents when they were just meeting and bonding over kicking demon butt.

The project has done incredibly well for the network, already drawing in fans from its origin series by the droves. Drake Rodger and Meg Donnelly star as the leading characters, John and Mary Campbell, respectively, with Jensen Ackles’ Dean serving as the narrator. For a show that ran for a whopping 15-seasons, moving forward with some sort of prequel or sequel story was a no brainer for those involved.

As for The Boys, while the fourth season may not include Jensen Ackles (as far as we know), his fellow Supernatural alum, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, has added his name to the call sheet in an undisclosed role. He’ll join loads of returning cast members along with the recently announced Susan Heyward as Sister Sage and Valorie Curry as Firecracker. While we don’t know any specifics, as plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, we do know that the season will take an even more political turn and focus on – you guessed it – more daddy issues!
