Watch William Shatner Show Up At The Oscars As Captain Kirk And Save The Show

Normally there’s not a lot to see at the Oscars for science fiction fans. The Academy tends to ignore the genre, whether or not it’s worthy, preferring historical dramas over movies about space travel. This year, though, the Academy Awards were hosted by Seth MacFarlane, out as one of the world’s biggest Star Trek fans. Given the power to craft his own show, Seth brought in William Shatner to reprise the role of Captain Kirk where he spent nearly 15-minutes on stage in his Captain’s chair dispensing show advice to a nervous MacFarlane.

Here it is, if you missed it…

He may be 81-years-old, but Shatner still fits into the uniform. Well done Captain my captain.

It’s sad you won’t share the video with us, given that we share a whole continent with you. Cheers from Canada.

To be honest, I kind of tuned out after Shatner. Did I miss anything good?

Jen … It is Canadian laws that prevent them from showing these sorts of videos … If you want to complain complain to the CRTC.

    <——— Canadian

I have many times. . . and being a Canadian yourself, I’m sure you know how well that works :)

Non-sequitur. Kirk died twice in his 60s according to the Star Trek story line. Once when the Nexus took him and again when McDowell sent him falling to his doom in Star Trek Generations. Kirk’s last words were “Oh my.” There have been no attempts to reincarnate Shatner as Kirk in the Trek series. And it would make little sense. All things pass away.

that was..just painful to watch. Oh, and the over-done 22 minutes of production numbers made it even worse.

Seth has a great voice, but I feel he’s an overrated hack. The only thing that he’s done that I’ve found vaguely funny over the past few years ha been ‘blue harvest.

A couple of photon torpedoes wold have done more to save the show lol

Didn’t we stop you Canadians in 1999 in Colorado? I knew we should have left a garrison…

THIS was Shatner’s final appearance as Captain Kirk. That’s sad.
