With only a month and a half until the release of Star Trek Into Darkness, anticipation and excitement are high for the latest film from J.J. Abrams. To feed the frenzy surrounding the Star Trek sequel film, Paramount has released a few images from the upcoming movie. Check out the images and the Empire Magazine cover below:

As part of an exclusive cover story for Empire Magazine, J.J. Abrams and the cast of Star Trek Into Darkness talked about the new sequel. In one of the images, it’s clear that there’s a small craft that’s been tagged “photon torpedo casing” (a coffin used for space burials). Does this hint towards a major plot development in Star Trek Into Darkness, or is it merely a reference to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan? We will find out this May.

With all the promotional materials that have been coming out lately, it seems like Paramount is trying to remind people that Star Trek Into Darkness will be released soon. A few months ago, when J.J. Abrams was announced as the new director of Star Wars: Episode VII, there was some concern that the attention had shifted from Star Trek to Star Wars.

While Abrams talked about how exciting the new Star Trek film will be, he also talked about his approach to making Star Wars: Episode VII. It’s not going to be easy for J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot team to go from one huge geek franchise Star Trek to another, but if there’s a director who can pull it off, it’s definitely J.J. Abrams (or maybe Joss Whedon).

Star Trek Into Darkness will hit theaters everywhere on May 17th, in IMAX and 3D.
