Disney’s animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur has recently announced a host of upcoming guest stars expected to lend their voice to the upcoming second season. Xolo Maridueña is set to join the mix with the group, meaning a comic book franchise crossover for the actor.

Xolo Maridueña Was Blue Beetle

Xolo Maridueña

Xolo Maridueña, recently made his feature film debut as the lead in DC’s Blue Beetle. The exciting new casting announcement means that Xolo Maridueña has joined an exclusive club of performers who have appeared in both Marvel and DC projects.

He isn’t the first and certainly won’t be the last to do this when it comes to DC and Marvel.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur

Though Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur likely won’t be referenced in major MCU films such as the upcoming Avengers installments, the series does take place within the shared canon of the films.

This is evidenced by certain character reprisals such as Cobie Smulders’ Agent Maria Hill, who appears in several episodes of the show.

Executive Steve Loter seemed to confirm via X (formerly Twitter) that Xolo Maridueña will be voicing the character Kid Kree within the series, leaving the door open for the young actor to appear in live action Marvel projects down the line.

Second Season In February

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is clearly ramping up their roster of guest voices for the upcoming second season, as more than a dozen guests, including Xolo Maridueña, have been announced.

The second season is slated to premier on Friday, February 2 on the Disney Channel and Disney XD, with voice performances from Wicked‘s Cynthia Erivo, The Mandalorian‘s Giancarlo Esposito, The Good Place‘s Manny Jacinto, and popular YouTuber SungWon Cho.

Though he is best known for his work under his YouTube channel ProZD, SungWon Cho has amassed over 100 IMDb credits, including a brief cameo appearance in the true story thriller Blackberry.

Lunella Lafayette Is Moon Girl

The Marvel series centers on Lunella Lafayette, also known as Moon Girl, who utilizes her superior intellect, engineering acumen, and 10-ton pet T-Rex to protect her community from evil of any kind.

The new season is expected to feature an internal struggle for Moon Girl, as she is forced to decide whether or not she feels it’s worth it to maintain her secret identity.

This is surely a struggle that Xolo Maridueña is familiar with as Jaime Reyes in Blue Beetle, when an alien symbiote unceremoniously thrusts incredible powers and a powerful suit of armor onto him without his understanding.

Others Joining Xolo Maridueña

Joining Xolo Maridueña in the upcoming second season of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur are a host of big-name actors including Arsenio Hall, Andy Garcia, Edward James Olmos, and Jonathan Banks.

While very few new character names and identities have been revealed, Edward James Olmos has been confirmed to play Molecule Man in the upcoming season, alongside Xolo Maridueña’s Kid Kree.

With all these big name actors signing on for voice roles, many fans have begun to wonder how many performers, if any, will be prepared to pivot their role into a live action context if the series eventually holds any major crossover events with the mainline Marvel films.

Marvel In Flux

For now, there’s no telling if Xolo Maridueña and the others will parlay their positions into significant MCU castings, especially as Marvel’s future remains in flux.

The studio was recently forced to make a major pivot due to the firing of Jonathan Majors, leaving upcoming installments such as the 2025 and 2026 Avengers outings to undergo significant restructuring.
