Rumors are more than a dime a dozen these days, but sometimes one comes along that feels more right than others. According to a recent post on 4Chan, Marvel Studios is planning to adapt the 2007 comic book crossover event World War Hulk for an upcoming MCU Phase Four arc. We are certainly aware that an anonymous post on 4Chan should not be taken as a confirmation of any kind, but it is a potentially pretty huge leak if true. And at the very least, it is very apparent that Phase Four of the MCU is going to be utilizing Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner and the Hulk mythos more than ever before.

The 4Chan post claimed that an MCU World War Hulk adaptation would spread across at least two movies. Knowing the intricate level of interconnecting references used by Marvel Studios to lay groundwork for future storylines, it may be that we are already seeing some of them seeded in the recent Disney+ projects like Hawkeye and Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The post also claimed that the movies would find Bruce Banner and/or the Hulk (once again) going off-planet, which we have also had rumors of. As in the comics, he would find his part-alien son Skaar and eventually turn to the terrifying World-Breaker Hulk. The second film would see Hulk facing off against multiple MCU heroes, including Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), the upcoming Jane Foster Thor (Natalie Portman), and the Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic.

Given that there has been only the most general of confirmations of the Fantastic Four being introduced to the MCU, some of this seems like a rumor on a theory on some hearsay. But it does seem inevitable that the First Family of Marvel will be brought in at some point to major arcs. Also, the upcoming years of Phase Four are going to be pretty Hulk-centric. The Disney+ She-Hulk series starring Tatiana Maslany has been confirmed to include not only Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, but Tim Roth as the Abomination (who already briefly showed up in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). Jameela Jamil has also been set as the villainous Titania, and our inside source confirmed that the show will feature multiple Hulks in some capacity. Since the comic books have featured multiple color schemes of Hulks and different individuals taking on the name, there’s plenty of source material to lead into a World War Hulk movie (or movies).

We will doubtlessly hear more rumors in the upcoming months as Marvel Studios builds up its plans for Phase Four. Whether it will be a full-on adaptation of World War Hulk will have to wait to be seen, though as always, probably not a good idea to give any sensitive information to Mark Ruffalo. The next upcoming arc of Phase Four is already set to be the Dr. Strange and Scarlet Witch-starring Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, but knowing how Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige plan ahead, there’s definitely more Hulk material coming up.
