When Tusla King aired late last year, it quickly became a hit, amassing loyal fans. The series, which comes from Taylor Sheridan, creator of Yellowstone, will be getting new leadership for the upcoming second season, according to ComicBook.com. Terence Winter, who served as the showrunner for Tusla King’s first season, will be taking a step back from the series, citing creative differences between him and Sheridan.

Terence Winter has a long list of successes behind him. The writer and producer worked on The Sopranos and created Boardwalk Empire.

While this may come as a surprise to fans, trouble between Winter and creator Taylor Sheridan has been brewing for some time. No one is certain what creative differences sparked the decision, but the two have run into trouble in the past. For example, the two disagreed about the very premise of the series.

Speaking to Deadline, Winter said that in Sheridan’s original vision for the series, Sylvester Stallone’s character Dwight would have been serving the mob as a low-level bagman for most of his life. He would have had no blood family of his own, and never would have set foot in prison. His trip to Kansas, in Sheridan’s version, would have been a “reward” for his service.

But Terence Winter thought the story of a 75-year-old wiseguy would be the perfect opportunity to look at a character like Dwight and explore what he would do with his remaining years. In this case, at least, it was Winter’s concept that won out in the end.

It appears that may have only been one of the many creative differences between the two and just a small part of what ultimately caused Terence Winter to decide to step down as the showrunner for Tulsa King. Winter noted that he is not leaving entirely and will still serve as an executive producer for the show.

Terence Winter said that he will be spending his time focusing on new projects. This comes as just the latest news to rock one of Taylor Sheridan’s projects. Reportedly, Yellowstone actor Kevin Costner could be leaving the show, leading to an abrupt cancelation.

While Terence Winter’s time with Tulsa King may be coming to an end, fans are anxiously awaiting what’s coming next for the producer. He was also the showrunner for HBO Max’s The Batman spinoff series.

The producer reportedly already has at least two works coming soon. Terence Winter said he will be collaborating with Martin Scorsese on at least one project. The duo worked together on Boardwalk Empire, Vinyl, and The Wolf of Wall Street, making fans anxious to see what they have in store for the future.
