Tom Holland

Will Tom Holland be appearing in the Venom sequels? The actor is notoriously bad at keeping Marvel’s secrets. He spills tightly held plot points during interviews, only realizing he’s done it after someone else points it out. Has he been much better at keeping quiet for Sony? Fans have speculated on his appearance in the Venom sequels since late 2019. At that time, Sony signed a new deal with Marvel Studies, wherein they both agreed to share the legendary web-slinger. While the details of that deal were kept tightly under wraps, it seemed obvious that with that deal in place, Spider-Man was about to get a lot busier. However, shortly after it was signed, pandemic lockdowns went into place. The opportunity for something to happen is only just now coming around. Are we finally about to get confirmation that Tom Holland will be appearing in the Venom sequels?

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Sony wants Tom Holland to appear in every Venom sequel they make. Currently, the only confirmed sequel is movie number two. Venom: Let There Be Carnage is set to release in 2021. There have been plenty of rumors claiming that Holland is in that film, though we don’t yet have confirmation of anything definite. Richtman didn’t provide details on whether Let There Be Carnage is included in what he heard about the sequels. However, there have been enough rumors for long enough that many are hopeful. While Tom Holland may not have a major role, there may be at least a cameo in Venom 2. It sounds like a very strong possibility at this point.

The first Venom film did very well at the box office for Sony. It brought in a strong $856 million worldwide. That number pretty much guaranteed a sequel. This was particularly good news because the mid-credits scene promised Venom 2 would see our main character facing off against Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady, also known as Carnage. While these were all great indicators of box office success for a sequel, the pandemic delays have caused problems for the franchise. The first movie came out in 2018. With such a gap between movies one and two, and low numbers at theaters due to the pandemic, the second film is going to need something excellent to get audiences excited. Could an appearance by Tom Holland be just the ticket?

Venom Sequels

Most likely, Tom Holland will have a cameo in the second film, as opposed to a major role. That would be why they’re keeping it a secret as well. Like how Woody Harrelson appeared at the end of Venom, Tom Holland could glide into Venom 2. This would be setting up a bigger part for Venom 3, should that movie happen. However, some have strongly argued that, storywise, it would make more sense to see Spider-Man and Venom face off in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

In terms of story, Sony and Marvel have a lot of negotiations to make. Wherever we finally see Spider-Man and Venom meeting in the movies, it will have to make sense for their stories so far. That’s a whole factor apart from making sure they book Tom Holland for the role. Currently, the actor’s career is at a high point in Hollywood. Negotiating his schedule can’t be easy, even for a secret cameo.

This news comes right after Sony announced that they are delaying the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Again. The previous delay gave the movie a release date in June, but we can now expect to see Venom 2 release in theaters on September 17, 2022.
