Who wouldn’t want to see another action-packed film starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans? Apparently, a lot of people. After Collider confirmed with the Russo brothers that they are currently writing a script for The Gray Man 2, many folks took to Twitter to voice their displeasure.

Some users have called The Gray Man “the worst and most soulless big budget studio filmmaking” and are begging for someone to stop the Russo brothers from making The Gray Man 2. Others took jabs at the scriptwriting, saying it will only take the Russo brothers a few hours to produce the sequel’s script, implying that there’s not much of a story to tell. Another user said he wants to burn the script for the sequel altogether.

After Netflix shelled out over $200 million for 2022’s hit movie The Gray Man, which is based on a the first book in a long series from author Mark Greaney, it’s unlikely that they would leave it at just one film. With a talented cast and 11 more books to create content from, we can ideally expect many more films in the franchise, far beyond The Gray Man 2. Though some fans didn’t like the film adaptation and others are dreading the sequel, The Gray Man was still one of the top 10 Netflix films of 2022.

The Gray Man gave us Ryan Gosling as Court Gentry (Sierra Six), the protagonist of the series, and Chris Evans as Lloyd Hansen, the mustached villain of the film. The two portray former colleagues whose bad blood gets even darker when Chris Evans’ character puts a bounty on Ryan Gosling’s Gentry. The film also stars the stunning Ana de Adams and the talented Billy Bob Thorton, who contribute to all of the drama, clever humor, and enough action to make some John Wick fans jealous, while others want more of the Keanu Reeves series influence on the Netflix original.

The Russo brothers are hard at work on the script for The Gray Man 2, so the plot details are currently unknown. However, if the sequel is based on the second novel in The Gray Man series, On Target, then we can anticipate Ryan Gosling to reprise his role as the master assassin Court Gentry. In this novel, an old colleague he thought was dead comes back to life to task Gentry with a difficult kidnapping mission.

After directing several Marvel movies, including Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, and producing the Oscar bombshell Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, the Russo brothers have moved on to other projects. The two are directing a science fiction adventure film called The Electric State which will be released on Netflix in 2024.

Most recently, the two collaborated on the science fiction action series Citadel which is set to air on Amazon Prime Video on April 28. The series will star Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Citadel spy agents who must recover their erased memories to fight back against the crime. The show hopes to combine The Gray Man’s action-packed spy content and Marvel’s science fiction thrills.
