Tessa Thompson Won’t Talk To The Most Popular Heroes in Thor: Love And Thunder

Tessa Thompson is set to return as Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when she appears in Thor: Love and Thunder. And it looks like she’s set to have at least a moderate part in what’s going to go down with the Norse god as he gets his mojo back. There are quite a few Marvel folks making their way into this movie, one that could have major implications on not just the character but the franchises as a whole. But according to Thompson, just because she was in the movie doesn’t mean there was interaction with everyone in the film. Apparently, she didn’t even see some of the most popular Marvel characters there are.

While speaking with Fandango All Access (via ComicBook), Tessa Thompson discussed what it was like to be on the set of Thor: Love and Thunder. And how the way the movie broke down, at least in terms of filming, meant that she didn’t interact with the entirety of the cast. In fact, when the Guardians of the Galaxy appear in the story, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie won’t have any lines with that group. It appears those two characters (or sets of characters) don’t have any overlap in the actual movie. It will be interesting to see how it plays out, but part of what Tessa Thompson said was, “Well, I just came to set to watch because I wasn’t in any of the Guardians stuff…”

It seems Tessa Thompson, on the days the Guardians of the Galaxy were filming was just there as an observer, wanting to see how Taika Waititi handled that part of the production with a crew he hadn’t worked with before. The Guardians appearing in the movie include Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Karen Gillian (Nebula), Dave Bautista (Drax), and Pom Klementieff (Mantis). It’s unclear really how much they or anyone else besides Chris Hemsworth as Thor play into the story. And that’s mostly because this is such a massive production that looks like it goes in a ton of different directions.

It appears the crux of Thor: Love and Thunder is about the titular God of Thunder trying to get his vim and vigor back following the events of Avengers: Endgame. When we last left him he was just joining up with the Asgardians of the Galaxy and already jockeying for ship and leadership dominance with Pratt’s Quill. There’s some chance it’s where things pick up, but from there we are going to see more Tessa Thompson who now leads Asgard, plus a trip to Mount Olympus to visit Russell Crowe’s Zeus, battles with Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher, and of course a reunion with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster who is now Mighty Thor.

Tessa Thompson and company (even those she didn’t film with) are set to hit the big screen with Thor: Love and Thunder this summer on July 8th. It promises to be a worthy follow-up to Ragnarok which Taika Waititi handled masterfully. This could be much of the same with a romp through the universe that has Thor meeting everyone from his past and present.
