Amidst a time when vampires were filling up our movie screens, zombies started to grace our televisions. The Walking Dead is an AMC series that first premiered back in 2010. Although the series has reached its eleventh and final season, fans won’t need to despair for long. A spinoff series titled Tales of the Walking Dead is set to come to AMC. The television series is based off of the original and critically acclaimed zombie show. And it has slowly been announced who will be part of the stellar cast. Terry Crews, who is known for his roles in film and television in a comedic sense, is one of the actors who will play a major role in the spinoff.
According to Collider, Tales of the Walking Dead will be an anthology series following six different stories based on the characters in the show. With Terry Crews being added to the cast list, there will probably be a little bit of comedy mixed with dramatic elements as Crews battles with some zombies. And the creative minds behind the series are also thrilled to bring these unique elements together for the fans. Channing Powell, who is working as the showrunner for the episodic spinoff and who also worked on the original series, expressed his excitement for this next step in the franchise, including the characters the actors will portray. According to Deadline, Powell said in a statement that, “…I can’t wait for you to see the depth, drama, terror and, yes, humor they bring to the screen.”
Terry Crews isn’t the only well-known talent that was cast in The Walking Dead spinoff. Some other actors and familiar faces we will see in the show include Poppy Liu, who has appeared in the series Hacks, Parker Posey, Anthony Edwards, and Jillian Bell. Bell is also known for her comedic roles in films such as 22 Jump Street. Edwards appeared in the popular series ER while Posey is known for some of her work on films such as Dazed and Confused and Scream 3. The cast so far has amazing credits and years of work under their belt, so they are more than prepared to take on roles in such an important and acclaimed franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Satrazemis, who worked on TheWalking Dead, will direct and put together three episodes, while talented directors Haifaa al-Mansour, Deborah Kampmeier, and Tara Nicole Weyr will each direct one.
Terry Crews has been working in the entertainment industry for quite some time. He has starred in the hit comedic television series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, working alongside comedian Andy Samberg. He also starred in the comedic movie White Chicks in 2004. Crews has taken part in a number of comedic roles over the course of his career. So, it will be interesting to see not only Crews, but the other cast members who have also been known for their comedic work, express the drama and terror in Tales of the Walking Dead.
While there is no set release date for the spinoff series, we hopefully will continue to get little glimpses as more news of the show and the cast is released. It will be fun to see actors such as Terry Crews bring to life a new storyline in the apocalyptic zombie franchise. The original The Walking Dead TV series might have reached its end, but luckily for fans, AMC’s Tales of the Walking Dead will keep fans from mourning for too long.
