Despite the closure of Lucasfilm’s Singapore branch of Industrial Light and Magic, which has been involved in creating several animated Star Wars shows, production for the upcoming third season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch will continue. The news was revealed in an X post by Joe Laron, the director responsible for cinematography, lighting, and special effects.

The shutdown of Lucasfilm’s Singapore branch of Industrial Light and Magic reportedly won’t affect the third season production of Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

“Just to be clear, we’re not affected by this closure. LAL is not in Singapore,” Laron said in a post that has since been deleted. “We’ve always been at either the ranch or where we are now in SF (or working from home!). We are still ferociously busy working with Cgcg to bring you all [season three] of [Star Wars:] The Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi,” he continued via Bleeding Cool.

Disney previously explained that the closure of Singapore’s Industrial Light and Magic studio was prompted by economic factors that forced the company to reduce its size. At the point of its shutdown, the studio had a workforce of over 300 individuals. To ensure the preservation of a strong team, Disney is said to be extending options for employees to transfer to its other studios.

A teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Bad Batch season three was screened during a convention panel in April. The clip began with the Emperor visiting Dr. Royce Hemlock, leader of the Empire’s cloning efforts, on Mount Tantiss. “It is imperative that this facility remain secure,” Palpatine says. “Your brilliance is a great asset to this Empire.”

Every member of the Star Wars Bad Batch appears as Hunter takes the opportunity to discuss the Empire’s capture of Omega. “Omega’s been waiting for us. I’m not making her wait another day.” The clip then cuts to Omega and Crosshair in Imperial custody. “I’m not giving up, Crosshair,” Omega tells him. “I won’t leave you, either. You’re my brother.”

Star Wars: The Bad Batch is an animated television series set in the Star Wars universe. It is a spin-off and spiritual successor to the popular animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Created by George Lucas and developed by Dave Filoni, The Bad Batch premiered on Disney+ in May 2021.

The story is set during the aftermath of the Clone Wars. In the realm of Star Wars, The Bad Batch (also known as Clone Force 99) are a group of elite clone troopers who possess unique genetic mutations that give them enhanced abilities compared to regular clones. These mutations make them distinct from the rest of the clone troopers, each having a specialized skill that makes them formidable soldiers.

A third and final season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch was announced in April 2023 and is scheduled for release in 2024.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch follows Clone Force 99 as they navigate a rapidly changing political landscape, dealing with the transition from the Republic to the Empire and the challenges it brings. Along the way, they encounter familiar faces from the Clone Wars and the broader Star Wars saga. The series also provides insights into the early days of the Empire’s reign and the establishment of its dominance in the galaxy.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch has been well-received by fans and critics for its engaging storytelling, animation quality, character development, and ability to expand upon the Star Wars universe beyond the scope of the main films. The show’s second season, comprising 16 episodes, debuted on January 4, 2023, and concluded on March 29.
